I am sitting here watching the hockey game with my family and surfin’ the web. Not really sure what I should blog about today, I have decided to share links to some of my favorite reads today.
Happy Friday night!

We didn’t plan it - I swear, it just happened. Our youngest will celebrate her birthday on Saturday, December 30. What a stinky day to have a birthday.
I feel bad for her because her friends are all out of town - so we’ll have the party on Jan. 7. It’s not the end of the world, but…
I feel bad for her because she just got a bunch of gifts for Christmas and is so content. She doesn’t really have an “I want” list like she would have come April.
I feel bad for her because everyone is shopped out. Big time. I am having a hard time mustering the energy to go shopping for her. Plus, I have no idea what to get.
But still I keep a smiley face on, after all, it is her special day and she is so excited. We bought the cake mix and ice cream today - she picked it out. We’ll have a small family party on Saturday and we’ll make it official - she will finally be 5. Old enough to start Kindergarten in the fall. Old enough to do so many big kid things. And young enough to still come and snuggle with Mom.
Who else is in this predicament year after year? Any tips? Please share them with me!!!

The past few days I have been battling a pretty rotten head cold - nice timing! Anyhow, I have taken everything over the past few days - Advil, Tylenol Sinus, Nyquil, and Vicks. Nothing really seemed to be doing much. I called my Mom - something I should have done from the start. She reminded me of one of her tried and true, simple wisdom tricks. Salt.
Yep, salt. She had me mix 1/4 cup of warm water, 1/4 tsp. of salt and 1/4 tsp. of baking soda. I dissolved them together and “inhaled” the water. Okay, I felt like I was drowning and it did sting a bit, but two “applications” and 4 hours later, I feel better now than I have in days. And when you get a sore throat - gargle with the mixture. It does wonders for killing germs in your mouth and throat.
I need to start using some of her other tricks, too. She uses a mixture of baking soda and vinegar to clean her bathrooms, or baking soda and salt mixed to a paste if you need some abrasive action. She uses vinegar and water to clean her windows.
According to my Mom, baking soda dissolved in water works well as an antacid, it works as an anti-itch solution, and deodorant. if you go to the Arm & Hammer web site, you will see many of these tricks featured. Who knew? I did, but I continue to get caught up in the marketing schemes of companies trying to get me to purchase their chemicals.
I think it is time to start looking to the past for solutions to our daily challenges - and Keep It Super Simple. It will be better for our families, our health and our environment.

‘Twas the night before Christmas and all through the house, not a creature was stirring, not even MY mouse.
And since I still have a bit of shopping to do, gifts to wrap, and a house to prepare for guests, I had better put my Mommy hat back on!
I am so grateful to everyone who has taken the time to read my blog, leave comments, and egg me on in this blogging journey. I know that the coming year will be one for even more learning, conversations, and successes thanks in part to all of you.
I’ll leave the nightlight on in case you want to stop in and leave me a note (and knowing me, I’ll sneak back in for a peek or two) over the next few days. Until then…
Merry Christmas to all!
