Got MyBlogLog Yet?

MyBlogLogHave you noticed those fun widgets showing up at all your favorite blogs that show you who was last there (scroll down to the lower right on this page)? Those are thanks to MyBlogLog, a social networking site for bloggers. I signed up about two weeks ago and I am really glad I did. It has been good for increasing my readership and for increasing the circle of blogs I like to read.

I wrote a review on MyBlogLog at my business blog, Essential Keystrokes, today. Check it out - and then come join in the fun!

Menu Plan Monday for Jan. 8

Menu Mondays

With three kids doing afterschool activities, I have found time and again that our house runs so much smoother when I have dinners for the week planned. I used to try to plan a month at a time, but our schedule can change so much from week to week. Laura at I’m an Organizing Junkie hosts Menu Plan Mondays, where everyone who participates can add a link. It is a great way to start your week on an organized note, check out what everyone else is having for dinner, and get some great ideas, too.

  • Monday - Beef brisket in the slow cooker, egg noodles and peas (update: this was a HIT! I made up my own recipe and it was yummy. One can of beer, 2 cups of ketchup, 2 TBS of Worcestershire sauce, garlic salt, Emeril’s BAM, and some brown sugar mixed together and swimming with the brisket all day)
  • Tuesday - Baja Fresh or Qdoba - we are out and about with overlapping activities so this one is a planned eat out night
  • Wednesday - Dress Your Own Pizzas
  • Thursday - Chicken, Broccoli and Pasta
  • Friday - Grilled Cheese Sandwiches and Vegetable Soup

Another advantage to planning ahead is that when I go grocery shopping, I only buy what I am missing, not a bunch of stuff I think I might need. And if I really want to be efficient, I can probably plan a week’s worth of meals from what is already in my pantry and/or freezer.

Arianne of Neat Living has some great editable/printable master grocery lists at her site that you might want to get. They are really helpful.

Who Needs Toys When You Have A Box?

Boy in Box

I am still wondering why we buy our children toys for Christmas or for that matter, at all! I mean, who needs toys or furniture when you have a good old cardboard box? Not my kids! I’m convinced that all my kids really need is a few cardboard boxes, some paper, crayons or markers, and maybe a handful of rocks. They could entertain themselves all day that way!

The box we have featured here has been in the messy playroom since Christmas day. Since then it has been used for a castle, a hide away, a reading spot - more than once, has been fought over, decorated, and cherished. Don’t let my 5 year old know that her big brother used the box for a video game chair - she’ll have a fit. After all, she claims it as her box.

Now, Mr. Imagination, took two beanbag chairs and put them in the bottom of the box. He then angled himself just right and threw in a blanket for good measure.

What my kids don’t know is that afterschool today, they have to help me clean up the playroom or else I will find a really good use for that box - a trash can!

Friday Link Love

Need some great blogs to read over the weekend? Wendy decided to keep a link love list going and added my humble blog to the list. It’s the least I can do to keep this meme a movin’.

How Did We Function?

The Good Old Days

This cartoon made me giggle - and then think! How many of my readers are old enough to remember:

  • Life before cell phones - can you believe we left the house and no one could track us down?
  • Life before email - yes, you actually had to pick up a pen, write a letter, and WAIT for it to arrive at its destination.
  • Life before eBay - oh yeah, you had garage sales or gave hand-me-downs to your neighbor.
  • Life before social networking - I think that was called a block party, Tupperware party, or Bridge night.

What else is relatively new and now we can’t imagine life without? Could you live without the Internet (of course, we can, but would we want to)?
