Monday Motivation - It’s Good For You

Monday MotivationWe are all creatures of habit and while it takes a few weeks for a new habit to be formed, Monday Motivation is a good one to invest in!!

Back in January I began participating in Menu Plan Monday, hosted by Laura at OrgJunkie. The first few weeks were a challenge, but once I got the hang of it, I realized that meal planning saves our family money, calories and a whole lot of stress. Now the habit is set and I feel lost if I do not have my menu planned for the week (see my current menus at my other site - Raising A Healthy Family).

A few months ago, my pal Wendy at eMoms at Home, posted her first Monday Motivation list and challenged us all to join her. Again, I am so glad I did. By laying out a plan at the beginning of the week (and posting it here to keep my self on track) has really helped me acheive some of my goals and has made me much more productive.

I know there are quite a few of my regular readers who have commented that MM is a good idea and that they should embrace it - well, what are you waiting for?? Make your plan and take it a week at a time. After a few weeks you will have a new habit and you will feel so much more productive. WAH(web)Mommy did!

Before I share this weeks’ goals, I just want to let you know that I am very proud of myself - I set my goal of no more sodas last week and I have not had a single soda since then. Yeah me!! I plan on keeping that new habit and will add something else soon.

My goals this week:

  • Work on a new business model I have for one of my sites (top secret - but you will be the first to know when its ready)
  • Give my inbox a good pruning (over 700 items in my inbox - surely some of them can go)
  • Start a new site for a client (their current site was designed by me 4 years ago - time for something new!)

On the personal front:

  • Keep up the no soda habit-in-progress
  • Finish completely gutting the playroom in preparation for the upcoming holiday
  • Take two bags of clothes to the local emergency thrift store

So, how about you? What will you accomplish today? This week? What good habit will you establish? Share it in the comments, or be bold and put it on your own site for all the world to read.

Casual Friday and Personalized Ornament Giveaway

Casual FridayLast night when we went into town for gymnastics and ice hockey practice, the first thing my kids noticed is that about half of the shopping centers had already started decorating for the holidays. I guess it is time to starting getting my brain around the whole holiday thing - although in light of all the recent recalls I am just not really excited about the shopping part. The decorating part is one of my favorite things though, and I love ornaments.

Today’s Casual Friday giveaway is cool in two ways. First it will give you something special for your Christmas tree, window, or to give as a gift. Second, the sponsor of today’s giveaway, FeeFiFoto, was the winner of last week’s giveaway.

Snowflake Ornament This week’s sponsor, FeeFiFoto, is giving away a gorgeous Personalized Photo Snowflake Ornament to one lucky winner! The delicate white snowflake ornament is made of excellent quality porcelain. Ornament is approximately 4″ wide.

It’s simple to create your own one of a kind ornament with FeeFiFoto. Simply upload your favorite photo to FeeFiFoto and see your design in progress as you crop or move you photo. You can even add a caption.

The lucky winner of today’s giveaway will get to create a one of a kind Personalized Photo Snowflake Ornament.

Entering to win is easy. Leave a comment on this post no later than midnight Sunday, November 11 and a winner will be randomly selected on Monday.

Everyone is welcome to join the conversation this morning. Have you noticed the holiday decorations going up around your town? When do you decorate - before Thanksgiving, right afterwards or at the last possible moment? And of course, we always seem to end up talking about our weekend plans, movies, kids and whatever else is on your mind! Let’s get talking!

UPDATE!! We are happy to announce that Dee at comment #168 is the winner! Enjoy!! Be sure to stop back in next Friday for another giveaway.

Pink No More - Another Casual Keystrokes Look

On my to-do list this week was to give this site a new look. I loved having my site pink for October in support of Breast Cancer Awareness, but it is time for something different - something inspired by what I see when I look out my front window - the glorious changing colors of the leaves.

Fall colors

Keeping with the theme of my past few designs, I used custom brushes in Photoshop to achieve the look I wanted. The brushes I used this time are high resolution leaves courtesy of Bittbox.com.

Once I recreated my header graphics, the change over was all done in the CSS - I changed the background color, link color and changed out the RSS button. I love WordPress and CSS for this purpose exactly!! It is so easy to give a site a fresh new look in a matter of minutes. All in all - this reboot took less than 1 hour from the time I opened Photoshop to create the header to the final tweak.

So, how do you like it? (RSS readers - come on, click through and take a look!)

Monday Motivation - Doing More With Less Time

Monday MotivationI am having flashbacks to summer right now! The kids are off school today and tomorrow thanks to Teacher Workdays/Election Day. While I am happy that I did not have to get everyone up at the crack of dawn and rush around until 8:15 getting all three kids to school, I am also wondering how much work I am actually going to accomplish this week.

Once I make it through Monday and Tuesday, my time will still be limited as I have meetings of some sort every day this week. I am going to have to be ultra productive during the time I am in the office, which means setting priorities.

The most important things I need to do this week are:

  • Finish a web site for a client - it’s so close to being done - and schedule a meeting with her to review.
  • Layout the program for our gym’s first competition of the season and get it to the printers by Wednesday.
  • Redesign this site - while I love the Pink for October header that I created, it is time for something new.

On a personal front, I need to:

  • Make a large crock-pot of chili and some rice for a get together Friday night.
  • Drink more water. No Diet Coke or sodas for me this week as I am trying to eliminate them completely.
  • Ride the stationary bike 3 times this week.

With careful planning and setting goals, you would be amazed at how much you can really get done when you think you are pressed for time! What are your goals this week? Leave them in the comments or post on your own site and let’s get it done!
