Where The Moms Are Online - Part 2

moms online

It doesn’t matter whether you are a stay at home mom, work at home mom or work out of the home mom, chances are you are online and wanting to connect with moms just like you. But where do you start? Last year I compiled the Ultimate Guide to Where the Moms are Online - highlighting many of the ways that moms are connecting and using the internet to share advice, get inspiration, support and even make money. Since the online world is ever changing, I decided it was time for an update! The following list is far from complete and in no particular order, but it should give you a really good starting point.

  • Blogher - This mega site is home to a multi-author blog, forum, directory, an ad network, and they host an annual conference too.
  • Work-It Mom - My new favorite site for connecting with other professionals. Includes member posts, discussions, forum, quick conversations, polls and more.
  • eMoms at Home - One of my favorite people, Wendy, has really taken her eMoms site to a new level in the past 6 months. She has added 6 blogs to her site and really started to develop a community for both moms and dads while being the blog for internet business resources. I don’t want to give away too much, but keep an eye on her site in the next few months as even more cool community resources are added.
  • Mom Blog Network - Has a Digg-like voting system, blogs, forums, and is part of the ParentsClick network.
  • Sk*rt - Social voting site for women. A great place to find new blogs to read.
  • 5 Minutes for Mom - Contests, multiple authors, a directory, uses Mr. Linky for quite a few weekly features.
  • Divine Caroline - Magazine style site focused on women, not just moms. Tons of content and extras, including its own ad network.
  • Crazy Hip Blog Mamas - Another multi author blog, CHBM has over 1,000 members and has daily events (themes).
  • Momlogic - Magazine style site with a good mix of news, fun, and plenty of Mom smarts.
  • Shakadoo - a network of niche sites all related to your life from family, work, pets, your home and more.
  • Maya’s Mom - A rapidly growing community for mom’s to share thoughts, advice, photos, and more.
  • Rocks in My Dryer - Home to Works for Me Wednesday, Bloggy Giveaways and other group projects.
  • I’m an Organizing Junkie - Laura’s Menu Plan Monday is a great way to connect with other moms, get inspiration for feeding your family and get organized.
  • Ladies Who Launch - Entrepreneurial moms will want to check this one out. Features include the magazine, members only areas, classifieds, and events.
  • Start Up Princess - Another wonderful resource site for entrpreneurial moms!
  • The Mom Blogs - List your mom blog for free and find more moms to connect with.
  • Regional Mom Blogs - Silicon Valley Moms, DC Metro Moms, Chicago Moms, New York City Moms,  New England Mamas, and more.

I am sure I have missed some! If you have a favorite online “mom spot”, please feel free to share it with us. Meanwhile, have fun making some new connections.

Casual Friday - Do You Make Money Online?

Happy FridayHappy Friday! I can honestly say I am glad this week is coming to a close. I have to take my youngest to the dentist this morning but that is it!

Here’s today’s question for discussion - Do You Make Money Online?  This can be directly (through Adsense, affiliates, paid reviews, writing for a network) or indirectly (as a result of your online marketing). I’d love to talk about what the opportunities are, what is working for you, what has not, answere your questions and share our tips!

I’ll start. Right now I am making money through multiple channels. I do freelance web design work and my online presence has definitely opened doors there. Additionally, I write for b5Media at www.wearyparent.com, make money from Adsense, Amazon, and some affiliate revenue.

How about you? Join the conversation and let’s start seeing some green!

Kitteh Kamping LOLCat Style

Kitteh Kamping (LOLCat style)

Last night tempertures plummeted into the single digits and I just couldn’t bear to let any of our animals stay outside. Our cat, Charlie, found a wonderful spot in the laundry room under a kids video chair (don’t ask why it is there!) and did not budge all night.

We call it “Kitteh Kamping”!

It’s a million little things.”

On Losing the First Tooth

I lost my toothMy youngest (of 3) is six years old. She watches intently as the older kids reach milestones and longs for the day she will do the same. This year she finally got to ride on the school bus (and now she hates it), got to check out books at the school library, and last night she finally lost her first tooth!

This tooth has been loose for two months - I kid you not. Unlike my 9 year old, Princess Nat does not like blood, pain or anything gross. She would wiggle that tooth lightly, but never hard enough to hurt or bleed like her big sister does. For the past week that tooth has been hanging on a by thread, but the princess just couldn’t muster the guts to give it a good old yank.

Tooth Fairy BarbieLast night at the ice hockey rink the tooth finally came out. Princess Nat was so brave about - there was a tiny bit of blood. And she was so proud of her missing tooth.  When it came time to do public skating, everytime she came near our table she would flash me a toothless grin.

When we got home she was very excited to go to bed and get that tooth securely under her pillow so the tooth fairy could stop in and give her some cash.

As I Mom, I also feel like I have crossed a milestone - all of my kids have now had a visit from the tooth fairy. They are growing up!!
