Casual Friday and Go-To Resource Book - Step 5

Casual FridaysHappy Friday! I had a great post planned yesterday but between Middle School orientation and what felt like I was living with the Slowsky turtles, it just never happened. Maybe I can sneak it in this afternoon.

Did you start a Go-To Resource Book with us this week? If so, it is time for Step 5 - IMPLEMENTATION. That book will not become a Go-To Resource unless you show every member of your family where it lives, what’s inside and how to use it. Put any finishing touches on it and break that thing in! (Did you miss this series? Start here with Step 1)

While I was at Middle School orientation yesterday I gathered a few items for the book - I am making a copy of my son’s locker combination, his schedule, the team fact sheet given out as reference by his teachers, and his school lunch menu.

This afternoon we get to go to the Elementary School to meet the Kindergarten teacher - which I think will put Miss N a lot more at ease, then we go upstairs to check in with Miss M’s 4th grade teacher who we know very well.

So, how was your week? Did you kids go back to school or did you meet the teachers yet? Did you do anything fun? See any good movies? Stop in anytime - the conversation will keep going all day. Everyone is welcome!!
Thanks to Eliza, Gayla, Yvonne, Brown Baron, Brooke, DevDad, Agent Sully, Randa, Kendra, Amanda, Laura, Angela, Ingo, Lynn and Marcie (Pickel) for hanging out with us last week.

Hey all! Happy Friday. This week flew by. It was week #2 for my husband’s football practice (double sessions - he’s the freshman coach at his high school) and he had freshman orientation last night, so I haven’t seen much of him! He doesn’t start school until after Labor Day, so we have another week of double practices. My dad is going to Carlisle, PA for a Corvette show with my brother this weekend, so my mom is staying with me and the hubs. Tonight we’re going to see Superbad at the theater together!

Have a great weekend, everyone!

Ingo - wow! That is dramatic - I can’t wait to hear what’s next for you. The Police concert sounds like fun!

Jane - sounds like a fun and busy week. Let us know how you like the movie.

I’m soooo jealous that you can watch movies. This week has been AWFUL!!!! I can’t wait for tomorrow afternoon. (maybe things will be normal then) My 2 yr old daughter has been sick allllllllllll week. Yesterday she was like a ragdoll. Not eating. Not drinking. (well she was and then would throw up on me!) Argh! Today she is a bit better but VERY whiny and I have gone through 4-5 diapers already and she has been up for 2+ hours! (Oh today should be fun!)

  Char wrote @ August 24th, 2007 at 10:11 am

Brooke - ooh, I hope she is feeling better soon - have you taken her in to the dr? Does she like popsicles? Maybe you could get more fluid in her that way?

  Ingo wrote @ August 24th, 2007 at 10:12 am

Does ‘Enterprise Federation’ makes any sense? I took that from google translator. My English is not good enough to describe my new employer. The German word is ‘Unternehmensverband’. I am going to work as director and also legal consultant/attorney for 250 mid-size companies (all members of that enterprice federation) concerning ‘industrial law’.

Yeah, The Polive will be great. THE(LOST)FRIEND was ready to support - but nobody gave us a call.

  Ingo wrote @ August 24th, 2007 at 10:13 am

Thanks homemom. Feeling great!

  Brooke wrote @ August 24th, 2007 at 10:19 am

Yup - the doc said “fluids”. And we started giving her meds that will help with the throwing up so she can keep things down.

I am happy that her personality is coming back!

It’s just coming the other way. Ahhhh - the road to recovery has many surprises!

My two boys started K and Grade 1 on Tuesday. The K teacher is the same as last year but the Grade 1 teacher is new and I am not to sure about her as of yet. We have meet the teacher next week so we shall see. I keep waiting for that “welcome to my class” newsletter they recieved in K and Pre-K. Different style I guess.

Just watch Premonition two nights ago. Sandra Bullock (she always seems to play the same type of person) was good. The movie was good but the ending did have a little twist to it.

Have a good weekend - we are off to Cincinnati to go to the Aquarium and a Reds game.

Hey Char,

I like your series so much on “Back to School” and setting up a resource book that I highlighted your article in a Top 10 Useful list guest post over at DumbLittleMan today:

Excellent stuff!
I only have one 3 yr old, but I’m going to take your ideas on the routines and implement them!!
Thanks
Sully

Lynn - sounds like a great weekend! I remember going to Reds games as a kid with friends - watching baseball live is the only way to go.

AgentSully - thanks so much for the link! I am so glad to hear that you found the series useful.

My week was very productive. Jane, Audrey and I crossed everything off our to-do list, and I stayed with Audrey a couple of nights to help out while her husband was out of town. I am looking forward to the weekend, staying at Jane’s home with Jane, Steve and beautiful Ryder! I know Ryder will sleep with me. She always does… probably because when Jane got her as a puppy, Jane lived at home. Ryder just seems to remember good ‘ole Grandma, who moves into contortion-like positions just so Ryder will be happy and super-comfortable. Audrey is in Ogunquit, Maine with her husband and 3 darlings, staying with friends. New England is supposedly heading for a heat-wave, so they will have a wonderful time near the water! Husband Barry is with son Keith at a Corvette convention in Pennsylvania! I have no problem staying home by myself, but it is fun to have sleepovers with your adult daughter(s) once-in-awhile!
Hope everyone relaxes a bit and enjoys the days as summer winds down!

My week was spent trying to remember this great idea I had for a post. I’m still trying to remember it heh. I guess if you don’t write it down, it never happened.

Char- I just left ya a comment at Essential Keystrokes.

Sharon - it sounds like a busy and fun weekend. It is wonderful that you and your girls are so close. The Corvette convention sounds like something my husband and son would love - we just sold our Corvette this summer.

BrownBaron - scratch paper is a good thing….

Mom Knows Everything - thanks for stopping in! The big step to middle school has been interesting but I am dreading high school in a few years.

HomeMom3 - BabyGirl will love preschool! You know she will.
