Casual Friday - Are You Game?

Casual FridayAnother week gone! I hope everyone has had a good one.  In keeping with Friday tradition around here, it is Casual Friday, which means its time to kick back and chat. Comments will be open all day (just like they always are), so join in the conversation. While we do have a theme, you can ask questions or talk about anything really.

Today’s question: What’s your favorite online game? Is gaming something you do often or is it just a guilty pleasure?  Do you spend much time playing games online?

In the past year I have not really played online much (something about my blogs becoming more time consuming), but when I do, I prefer solitaire and word games to anything else. Last night my husband convinced me to join him at PokerStars (using the play money version) and that was fun, but I don’t think it would hold my attention very long. How about the stories I keep hearing of Moms (and Dads) becoming major players of their kids Webkinz accounts? Do you play your kids games or do you just get your own account?

Chime in! I’d love to hear about your week and find out what games are your favorite.

Thanks to  Brooke,  Gayla, Lisa-Marie, Laura W. (who won the Designher Gals giveaway), Neena, Brown Baron, Yvonne, Jane, Lucy, Amanda, Denise, Eliza, Laura, Marcie, and Genesis, for stopping in last week.

I occasionally play Bejeweled online… it’s addicting!

I have too short an attention span for any kind of games LOL

On AFW we have an arcade with a bunch of different games. My favourite are the Yeti games, I will play only occasionally. I procrastinate enough as it is, without the added distraction of games :)

I don’t really do other games either, no matter what time of the day if I sit down to watch DH play PS3..I’m asleep within 10mins

Hi - can’t believe its Friday again already!

I haven’t really discovered playing games online, which is just as well, as I find keeping up with people’s blogs takes up a lot of time, which makes me feel guilty (a mothers lot).

I do have a Second Life avatar (Starling Picket) but I haven’t managed to get her off the training island yet. There’s always something that looks more like work to do …

Laura - I have played Bejeweled too - the fact that it is an addictive game is why I try not to get started very often.

Leigh - watching others play games on PS or computer always bores me.

Lucy - I haven’t even started looking at Second Life - what is the objective of it?

  Laura wrote @ October 5th, 2007 at 10:37 am

I’ve played bejeweled, but on my cell phone, not online. I do enjoy it, but usually use it to kill time (gasp!!) while I’m waiting outside the school to pick a kid up.

While I don’t have time to play online games, it seems my kids do. One of them, in particular, is very into ClubPenguin. Do anybody else’s kids play ClubPenguin?

  Char wrote @ October 5th, 2007 at 10:45 am

Laura - we have not started on ClubPenguin. My kids went through the Disney Virtual Magic Kingdom phase. The girls are now into Webkinz online big time and my youngest likes the new barbiegirls.com site. My son does Aces High and mostly flying games on PS.

I’m not sure there is an objective for Second Life, as such - you join, set yourself up an avatar, and then roam around meeting people and going to events, gigs, shows … Rumour has it that you can make real money selling virtual ‘things’ to people (so running a virtual business). Companies are setting themselves up virtual branches in Second Life for marketing and recruitment purposes.

The architecture underlying Second Life is available for companies to use for their own purposes (at a price). For example, NASA use it to help their rocket scientists collaborate with other rocket scientists to build more rockets …

But I think most people just use it for fun.

I use to play Neopets when it first started out, then bejeweled, after that is was Twister (with words). Now hubby plays poker on it and I just blog and check email.

I was going to say that I don’t play computer games at all - never had, umm, until I saw the first comment - bejeweled, that’s a cool game, but on my cell phone too, like Laura. :)

My wife and I are regular condition zero(think counterstrike) players. We always try to outdo each other and everyone on the server laughs at our little competition.

Hmm, I play Simms on the computer…just not the internet.

I have not put any games on my phone yet, but I am thinking I might.

I have been out of the office most of the day and didn’t even get a chance to send my normal Friday note out. Thanks to everyone for coming to visit today.

I play on pogo. They have a free version, with tons of mind numbing games, and a club version which allows you access to more great games, an avatar mini which they update almost weekly with new backgrounds and outfits, etc. they also have weekly challenges, which have become quite competitive for me. My sister also has an account and we compete against each other.

I play a lot of SecondLife, mainly because it reminds me so much of the SIMs, which I’ve played since as far back as I can remember. I like the interaction too, as well as making a few dollars selling things in-world!

I also play internet scrabble via ISC.ro - it’s terribly addictive! I also play a lot of Scrabble on my mobile, usually when I’m on the bus to and from work. I wish I could get ‘Big Brain Academy’ for my phone, instead of having the borrow my brother’s Nitendo DS all the time!!

And of course, I play poker at PKR.com - which is like poker meets the SIMs!!

I don´t play online games and my kids are still too little to be interested in anything but banging on the keyboard. However, I do play a lot of computer games to relax. I love games like Bejeweled, The Sims, Morrowind, etc. Also, word games are fun.

Usually, I try to limit play and use it as a reward for myself when I get lots of work done. On slow days, I will set a goal of 5 articles and then play for 30 minutes, etc.
