Casual Friday - Do You Make Money Online?

Happy FridayHappy Friday! I can honestly say I am glad this week is coming to a close. I have to take my youngest to the dentist this morning but that is it!

Here’s today’s question for discussion - Do You Make Money Online?  This can be directly (through Adsense, affiliates, paid reviews, writing for a network) or indirectly (as a result of your online marketing). I’d love to talk about what the opportunities are, what is working for you, what has not, answere your questions and share our tips!

I’ll start. Right now I am making money through multiple channels. I do freelance web design work and my online presence has definitely opened doors there. Additionally, I write for b5Media at www.wearyparent.com, make money from Adsense, Amazon, and some affiliate revenue.

How about you? Join the conversation and let’s start seeing some green!

Good morning Char! I love these Friday’s here - so nice to drop in and say hi!

Regarding your question - I am a web designer so my online presence is necessary and good. I do not do anything else online but…this! Talk to others, participate on forums, comment on blogs etc. This has actually helped me in many ways…I meet wonderful people that I can just talk to, those who might be able to answer some questions, or partner in work! So just being ‘online’ has been a fantastic thing for me!

Brooke - I am like you, but have also found it very rewarding to create a few niche sites of my own, monetize them and become my own client in a way. You have the skills and could easily do the same.

Glad you like hanging out with us on Fridays - I love it, too.

I don’t make much money online. Lately, I haven’t made any *eeps*, but I’m registered with WidgetBucks (got $35 with them, and it gains fast, compared to AdSense). I’ve earned with SurveySpot, but they’re not offering as much “money-earners” just chances to win now. In others, I’m just trying to get the money to start to flow. Just started with MPM, and I’m not sure how well that’s going to work out :(

Hi Char and Brooke- Yes, I too love Friday’s here. Love the communication between everyone. As for making money, mine is like the two of you. A little adsense, amazon, affiliates and then a network.

Sarah - I have not tried Widget Bucks yet - I may have to look into them.

Eliza - You are a Friday standard - I can’t imagine a Casual Friday without you :-) Are you getting all settled in your new home yet?

Char- how was the dentist? Yes, slowly getting settled. Beds came last week, this monday we are suppose to get dining room table, chairs and hutch. Once again they’ve stalled on the couch. grumble grumble. Oh and I’m still unpacking (probably will for months) lol

Well I thought I’d come out of lurkerdom. I hope the dentist went well. I’ve started talking that up with my daughter. I think she’s almost old enough to co-operate and make it worth going.

As for making money online… I’m trying but not succeeding yet. The mom’s news site costs more to run each month then it makes. First I need to work on getting more readers. :) I have some plans for the end of the month to turn all the recalls and newsy articles into a public service pamphlet for parents. Then give it to places like dr’s offices to hand out. I want to make one summarizing each month with the web url in big letters. :)

The dentist was a gigantic waste of my time. My daughter would not cooperate at all and they determined that she needed to see a pediatric dentist instead. They want to do a root canal on a baby tooth - is someone joking??? I say just remove the tooth. Anyhow, she has a consult with the pediatric dentist on Monday.

Rose - thanks for coming out of lurkdom! I have realized that making money online is all about patience, persistence, and a sprinkle of luck. You have a good site - stick with it and it will get to where you want it to be.

Root canal? For a baby tooth? Don’t let them do it!

I had root canal treatment a few years ago, and found it deeply unpleasant. Four hours in the chair, extremely invasive, worse than giving birth (which I’ve done three times - not doing that again, either). I wept uncontrollably for ages afterwards driving home - I think I must have been in shock or something!

If I didn’t already have a strong belief in the importance of dentistry it would have turned me right off for ever.

My dentist-phobic daughter, on the other hand, who wouldn’t open her jaw wide enough for an exam, but needed some treatment (celiac - poorly developed tooth) - saw a pediatric dentist who was lovely, sedated her slightly with gas, and had a dental nurse who did the relaxation-talk, like they do at the end of yoga classes … I was practically asleep in the spectator’s chair. I say, go for the pediatric dentist for an extraction if necessary, not root canal!

Thanks for the words of wisdom Lucy!! I really do not have any intentions of letting them do a root canal on a 6 year old. What I don’t understand is why the tooth has disintegrated like it has. She brushes well, doesn’t drink a lot of sugary drinks, etc. I wonder how much of her tooth trouble is connected to all the other issues we have had health wise.

I’ll keep you posted.

I do make money online, it feels so good to say, I couldn’t say it a year ago:) I make the most with affiliate sales (I’m a huge Squidoo fan), I blog for b5media at Mother Earth’s Garden, and I make some money from Adsense, and once in a while writing for other clients.

  homemom3 wrote @ January 26th, 2008 at 1:27 am

Char my kids teeth act like this, they told me it was because they don’t get enough flouride in their diet.

  Char wrote @ January 26th, 2008 at 9:40 am

Linette - I need to look into Squidoo more!

Eliza - I thought we were doing a good job with supplementing their fluoride since we are on well water, but maybe we aren’t.

  homemom3 wrote @ January 26th, 2008 at 7:56 pm

oh well that was our case, not sure then sorry. How is your weekend going?

  Lisa-Marie wrote @ January 29th, 2008 at 1:27 pm

Hi Char

It has probably been about 3 months since I had time opportunity to visit and I have missed reading. November and December were spent making money on line and training our new Partners (no adsense or affliate just plain old fashioned retail). January was spent in a moving nightmare - I have linked to my personal blog for a change since we haven’t been business blogging at all (I didn’t have time to train my Partner and I have only just got back to work) but we need to get back to it on your awesone template. Sorry to hear about your daughter’s dentist experience - I hope the pediatric one went better.

  homemom3 wrote @ January 29th, 2008 at 2:50 pm

Char, everything okay? I hope so. Well we just got snow again, of course it is that powder stuff you said we got last time. No fun, but pretty to watch fall.

  Char wrote @ January 29th, 2008 at 2:55 pm

Lisa - oh, your new home is in such a beautiful location! Glad to hear you are getting settled.

Homemom3 - just busy - have a big post in the works…
