After a few unseasonably cool weeks in July, summer is back with a venegence and it really feels like the Dog Days of Summer are here. It is only appropriate that I share some doggie links:
Stop by any time today! Tell us about your week, share pictures of your dog, share your tips for staying cool during the hot summer months, or just chat. It’s pretty casual, but always fun.
Thanks to Randa, Kate, Eliza, Gayla, Laura, Yvonne, Amanda, Brown Baron, Denise, Pickel, Brooke, Bronwen, and DevDad for stopping in last week.

Howdy, how are ya’ll doing over here today? We would be doing great if ONLY it would STOP raining. Kids have basically been cooped up all summer long. ikkk. They can’t wait to go back to school. BTW- don’t forget about my going back to school carnival.
Yesterday we celebrated my daughter’s 4th birthday. Other than that I think the inlaws have stopped coming and now we must start finding those school supply lists.
New movies? Ummm, I know I just watched one, will have to ask my son. I do want to take the kids to UnderDog though.

Good morning Eliza! We have had some rain this week but it is supposed to be 96 today - ouch.
It is tax free weekend for us so I think I will be doing school supply shopping on Sunday.
homemom3 wrote @ August 3rd, 2007 at 7:22 am
I wish we could. Problem is we still don’t know who the teachers are. We have the “Common List” as they call it but under that there is a list of teachers and the additional items they want. UGH. So without knowing what we need we really can’t shop. $#!#%$^%%&^
I’m sure you know the feeling. I hear we have a tax weekend coming up, it may even be this weekend. I love those tax free days.
Good morning all. We need a little of your rain up this way Eliza. We’ve been bone dry for Days!
I went to the doc yesterday. Apparently I’m due for my five year flu. I have a horrible throat infection NO Voice! Of course the family loves it. Only bright side is, the pounds are fallin off. Gotta love that. I’m going to be working in segments today and sleeping the rest.
I’d like to ask that ya’all keep my mom in your thoughts. She’s just 100 miles north of the wildfires in Canada. They’ve shut the power down in her town and pretty much locked it up tight. No fuel, nothing. She’s there alone - my stepdad is out working in the states.
She’s putting on a good front when I speak to her, being all brave and stuff. But I know she’s worried sick. When she calls here at 7 AM knowing it’s only 4 AM her time?
Aside from that, we have new baby chicks arriving - the new Bassett Hound has learned to rule the roost here - she’s really taught us to keep our food put up LOL
Char wrote @ August 3rd, 2007 at 8:18 am
Eliza - I know it means two trips, but what if you took advantage of tax free for the common list and then got the rest once you get the final lists. You can always return what you won’t need.
Gayla - HUGS! Sorry to hear you are feeling so ill. Rest is probably the best thing now anyway. We will keep your mom in our thoughts - that would have to be scary.
I hope you will post pictures of the new baby chicks.

Good morning all! I hope you are all well - thanks for letting me visit last week.
We sure need some rain here - so send it our way. It has been HOT for a while now and I am ready for it to be just a bit cooler. We all stay cool in the evenings with a beer, good friends and a rousing game of Farkle! That is the best.
I do have a dog - a blue heeler or australian cattle dog. VERY smart and a little high maintenance lately. But in this heat and with her coat - I would be high maintenance too!
Char wrote @ August 3rd, 2007 at 8:28 am
Brooke - you are always welcome here!! So is everyone else. Pardon my ignorance, but how do you play Farkle?
Brooke wrote @ August 3rd, 2007 at 8:39 am
It’s super fun! (Probably because it’s easy and it’s with dice so you can play it anywhere.) We tend to play on our deck, at night, after the kids are sleeping.

char- very true just hate driving. lol. call me a wimp.
Hi all - I used to have an Old English Sheepdog. I can’t think of the names of any movies (Shaggy Dog?), but they are adorable, though lots of work to look after.
There have been some amazing true stories about dogs and their instincts e.g. protecting family members or finding their way back to somewhere they lived, hundreds of miles away. Have a great weekend.

gayla- expect a few emails today. Hope ya start feeling better soon and I’ll keep your mom in my thoughts.

Hi everyone - like homemom3, we could do with some sun.
I’m intrigued by this ‘tax-free weekend’ - is this at certain retailers, or is it the state declaring tax-free?
We’ve still got a month to go before back to school, but I do need to think about school uniform - but please, not yet!
Amazingly, I’m home alone for 45 minutes. I’m supposed to be making beds and preparing for the descent of family at the weekend (two of my sisters, two of their four children, one soon-to-be brother-in-law and his son, two foster children of one of my sisters, my parents and a friend of theirs - plus five of us). I’m also housing two additional guinea pigs for a friend. But I’d much rather be here than making beds and cleaning up!

Brooke - I love games with dice and/or cards so I am going to have to look into that more!
Yvonne - I find it fascinating that dogs really have some what of a 6th sense and just know things.
Lucy, in the states it seems to be a state thing and each state handles it differently. Here is a post I did on tax-free shopping..
Regarding procrastination - welcome to the club! We have company coming tomorrow too, but I am busy working away instead!
Brooke wrote @ August 3rd, 2007 at 9:13 am
Whoa Lucy! You are a saint! You will have a house full this weekend - but have fun!
Hi all,
I finally got a chance to get 8 hours of sleep yay! I forgot how good that felt. My wife took the kids shopping and I planned on getting a quick hour nap. I woke up and looked at my watch and felt so guilty about sleeping so long but when I got up, I found that my wife and kids were all sleeping haha.
Lucy wrote @ August 3rd, 2007 at 9:55 am
Farkle looks good - like a game we could play this weekend. I wonder if we’ve got six dice?
Char - thanks for the info re tax-free shopping. I definitely think you should all make the most of it … it seems very generous of those states to give up the tax, isn’t there any catch at all?
Brooke wrote @ August 3rd, 2007 at 10:01 am
You should play Lucy! Let me know how it goes and if you like it!
Almost every day of the week, Alex and I spend some time in the pool with the dogs. I’ll have to put some pictures up so you guys can see, but picture this: a raft as the boat, Alex as the captain, and two Jack Russell Terriers as the deck hands. Pretty cute stuff!

Lucy - each state is a bit different, but where I live, all school supplies are tax free and clothing items under $100 each are tax free.
DevDad - that sounds like fun!! I wonder who has the most fun?

I just saw a SNAKE in our yard! Freaky man!
homemom3 wrote @ August 3rd, 2007 at 12:33 pm
ewwwww. I hate those things, we had one in a neighbors house when we first moved out here. BIG thing.
Any new movies to rent out?
homemom3 wrote @ August 3rd, 2007 at 1:18 pm
Gayla your site is acting up, I can’t view it now. Sent you an email but not sure you will get it.
Vicki wrote @ August 3rd, 2007 at 1:29 pm
Good morning! Thanks for the reminder that Underdog comes out this weekend — I was planning on seeing it but didn’t know when it was coming out!! It looks so cute! I wonder if they released it during the “Dog Days of Summer” on purpose?
Personally, I think it’ll be nice to go sit in the air-conditioned movie theater this weekend…it is unbearably hot out there! Have a great weekend!
My blog seems to be acting up a lot lately. I called the host and they are pointing the fingers at wordpress. Who know? Working on it now. Keep your fingers crossed. today isn’t a good day to be working on this though. Nyquil and wordpress don’t mix so well
DevDad - we have a Jack Russell mix - she’s got the prettiest powder blue eyes. We also have a Cocker Spaniel and a Bassett Hound. I’m a dog girl. I’d have 50 if I could.
Brooke wrote @ August 3rd, 2007 at 1:33 pm
Gayla - maybe you wanna take ours for a bit! Great dog - we are just having a hard time finding the energy for her!
homemom3 wrote @ August 3rd, 2007 at 5:11 pm

Still no cable so I am checking in from my phone.
