Casual Friday - Football, Shopping and a Kipling Giveaway

Happy Stormy Casual Friday everyone!! Superbowl Sunday is just a few days away and everywhere I go the talk is about the ads, parties, football food, and of course, the game! So, let’s have some fun with this today. Vote, comment and win a cool Kipling handbag for spring!

Let’s start with a quick vote.

{democracy:2}

And for today’s discussion.

Will you watch the game? Go to a Superbowl party? Which team are you cheering for? Do you have some favorite Superbowl food recipes? Do you watch the game just for the commercials? Or would you rather blow the whole thing off and go shopping? Plus the normal Friday stuff.

Enter to win.

Kipling Meg Handbag GoldpowderCitySatchel.com knows that my readers love to shop in style and is sponsoring a giveaway to go with our Casual Friday discussion this weekend. We are giving away a very stylish Kipling Meg handbag from the Hip Collection. The purse is in the color Goldpowder and has pockets, zippers, silver accents and the trademark Kipling monkey charm. Fully lined interior with inner zipper pocket and cell phone pocket. Metallic is all the rage this season!

It’s easy to enter. Just join the discussion between now and midnight Monday, February 4, 2008. You can get a bonus entry if you blog about the giveaway, but it is not required.

Let’s kick this off!!

UPDATE!! We have a winner!! Random.org selected comment #1 - I have never had it do that before. Anyhow, that means Gayla of MomGadget is the lucky winner.

Good mornin’ — Football? Living in a house with four males who are jacked up on testosterone, I’m kind of in the position of not having a choice. However, IF I Must watch football, I do prefer the Super Bowl because I get to enjoy the commercials at least :)

  Char wrote @ February 1st, 2008 at 10:28 am

Gayla - Good morning! How do you like the Kipling bag? Might be nice to add your collection. I’m with you, if I have to watch it, at least the commercials will be good.

  Lucy wrote @ February 1st, 2008 at 10:37 am

Hooh! Nice bag!

Superbowl is not big in our house, here in rural England … but I think my husband said the rugby was starting this weekend, so he’ll be shouting at the screen. I expect I’ll be entertaining the children - they seem to like baking while he’s watching rugby, so expect flour all over the floor and a lot of washing up!

  Char wrote @ February 1st, 2008 at 10:48 am

Lucy - ah, rugby! I think my kid’s favorite part of baking is the mess. With one of your kids having celiac, do you all go gluten free or just her? Do you have a favorite wheat flour substitute?

  homemom3 wrote @ February 1st, 2008 at 10:53 am

well I’ll only be watching it because of the ads and the halftime show. I have two girls that want to be cheerleaders. Of course my son is a football fan as well and will root against me. GO GIANTS! Hey, I had to pick a team right? I figured they managed to get in they don’t want to look like fools and lose. :) Oh and I want that purse!

  pickel wrote @ February 1st, 2008 at 10:55 am

Can I watch paint dry instead? That is more exciting to me…

  pickel wrote @ February 1st, 2008 at 10:57 am

Oh, and I love the bag…I am a pursoholic (if that is a word). My parents just left for India and are on strict orders to pick up tons of new designs for me. My SIL got me my favorite there…a Chinese take-out box with chop sticks for handles.

  Char wrote @ February 1st, 2008 at 11:04 am

Homemom3 - I am not rooting for either fan - just the commercials.

Pickel - too funny! And welcome to the purse enablers club.

  V-Grrrl wrote @ February 1st, 2008 at 11:37 am

Proud to remind everybody that Kipling is a Belgian company based in Antwerp. Woo hoo!

No Super Bowl watching in Belgium. Even if you have the satellite hookups, it airs in the middle of the night.

Not pro football fan. The only time I’ve been into football was when we lived in Oklahoma (Go Sooners!)

Neena (NeenMachine) wrote @ February 1st, 2008 at 12:05 pm

I am a Steelers fan myself but since we are located between Giants and Patriots territory this will be a good game to watch - the boys in my family are divided. Thankfully we are having friends over which makes game night more fun. And although I do love the ads, shopping trumps all!

  Lucy wrote @ February 1st, 2008 at 12:08 pm

On baking: we bake gluten free, because then everyone can try some. I don’t have a particular favourite, but we’ve just discovered Gluten Free Gobsmacked’s gluten free croissant recipe. Now that’s a find!

  Char wrote @ February 1st, 2008 at 2:52 pm

V-Grrrl - and I have you to thank for my Kipling addiction! ;-)

Neena - Steelers fans here as well. I’m not sure who my boys are rooting for this year.

Lucy - I’ll have to share that with my sister-in-law - they do everything gluten free, too.

I just got back from a quick shopping trip and a birthday lunch with one of my closest friends. Unfortunately our other friend (who often reads here) couldn’t make it because the bank’s drive through window “ate” her tube with her money and her license and now she has to wait for a technician to come fix the machine and retrieve her stuff. Bummer!!!

Gayla McCord wrote @ February 1st, 2008 at 3:03 pm

I love the bag. In fact, Gold would be a very nice addition. Would look quite snazzy with the new Tavon watch my family got me for Christmas :)

I’m feeling like such a spoiled brat lately. I’ve not been THIS in touch with my girly side in a LONG time.

  Char wrote @ February 1st, 2008 at 3:05 pm

I just reloaded the picture. The first one I had in was actually the silver one. CitySatchel just sent me the new photo.

Gayla - you would have loved shopping with us earlier. Had lots of fun trying things on and finding good deals. I love it when Ann Taylor has a good sale.

Randa Clay wrote @ February 1st, 2008 at 3:26 pm

Football?? Blaaaah. I used to watch with great interest when I was in college, but now I’m just relieved to have a husband who is not interested in sports.

Yucky weather here today… cold and rainy, and I’m glad to be inside. Hoping the kiddo takes a LOOOOONG nap so I can finally get something up on my much neglected blog. I’m in a total blogging slump and need to find some way of pulling out of it. Know of any good group writing projects? Today I’m writing a post extolling the virtues of Gayla and Char, and the value of participating in forums.

Cute purse… I need to find some stuff to give away on my blog. Hmmmm…

  Jeri wrote @ February 1st, 2008 at 3:42 pm

I like the superbowl food the best! Enter me to win this awesome bag!

  homemom3 wrote @ February 1st, 2008 at 3:46 pm

so Char, maybe I missed this but did you say you were having a party? Or just the family?

Cindi Hoppes wrote @ February 1st, 2008 at 4:10 pm

Lovely bag! Beautiful color. I do not like to watch most sports, especially on television. My son attends college so I will watch some college football and basketball! As far as pro sports, I can tolerate Baseball. I think the concept is football is Neanderthal. Thanks,Cindi

  Char wrote @ February 1st, 2008 at 4:14 pm

Randa - Let’s come up with a group writing project! We all need some inspiration - I’m having a tough time staying focused on Essential Keystrokes too.

Jeri - What are you going to make for Sunday?

HomeMom3 - no party here - just hanging out with the family. I might make some football snacks, but thats it.

Cindi - Thanks for joining us today!! I like most sports but football is not my favorite.

Randa Clay wrote @ February 1st, 2008 at 4:42 pm

Good idea Char. I’ll start brainstorming a list of ideas. Would be nice to think of something quirky/unusual like the “Blogging Metaphor” one from last year.

Tracey Byram wrote @ February 1st, 2008 at 5:18 pm

I my house, the only sports I have to endure on television is anything Nascar. No real sports fans in the house. But being a Sunday, I’ll have the kids and grandkids over to eat and play the wii. Wii Sports bowling is about as close I’m getting to sports.

  Char wrote @ February 1st, 2008 at 5:20 pm

Tracey - I love Wii Sports! Try tennis - it is a lot of fun.

kathi pinkston wrote @ February 1st, 2008 at 5:21 pm

how nice to know the handbag department will be empty on Sunday!

Yeah! I can pick up and hold/try all I want!

Wendy Piersall wrote @ February 1st, 2008 at 5:28 pm

You know, I’ve had a heck of a week with my laptop kicking the bucket and my mom being in surgery - all during a bad spell of PMS!! :(

But this pretty bag would sure cheer me up! Although I can report that my hard drive is intact, my mom is home and doing awesome, and the PMS has lifted… but I really think I need the bag to make the week better. ;)

  Char wrote @ February 1st, 2008 at 5:38 pm

Wendy - you have had a rough week - yikes! I agree, you need the bag!

  Michelle S. wrote @ February 1st, 2008 at 5:59 pm

Gorgeous bag. It also looks like it has enough room and compartments for all my stuff–bonus!

I will definitely be watching Sunday. I am a Patriots fan living just south of Boston, so not only am I looking forward to the game, I am also looking forward to not having all the local news be three minutes of regular news and 27 minutes of Patriots filler. Of course, that won’t happen until after the victory rally on Tuesday. ;)

  Connie G wrote @ February 1st, 2008 at 5:59 pm

We won’t be watching the Super Bowl, but will be glad when Nascar starts up again.

Kimberly Cook wrote @ February 1st, 2008 at 6:00 pm

I love the ads too. My favorites were Shaq racing a horse and the Wine and Cheese one. The Amp ad was disgusting and in very bad taste. My children were watching and wanted to know why he had jumper cable clamps attached to his nipples then was smiling and jumping around UGHHH How tacky.

Marie Noguerole wrote @ February 4th, 2008 at 6:49 am

Fabulous bag…but the game was a huge disappointment this year unless you happen to be a Giants fan. The defense and their QB were tenaceous to say the least. They earned this one the hard way. The commercials, as always, were a mixed bag of tricks…some good, some bad and some that should be canned. As for AMP…fire your advertising team and rethink your target audience. Perhaps it would have been wiser to go shopping and Tivo the game for viewing later.
