Casual Friday - Ice, Ice, Baby

iciclesHappy Friday! Our kids are getting their first “snow” day of the year and it isn’t even snowing! It should really be called an “ice” day, because that is what we are getting.

I know for many of you the snow days have been too plentiful, too frequent and you are just ready for some spring weather.  Me, I would just love one big, white, fluffy snow storm this year - enough to snow us in for 2 days and then winter is free to leave.

How has your winter been? Lots of snow days or just a few? Do you have cabin fever yet? And anything else you have to say about the weather.  Of course, feel free to talk about anything really - after all this is Casual Friday. How about the Oscar’s this weekend? I haven’t even heard of half the movies! And the political debates - is it November yet?

Also, be sure to stop back in over the weekend because I will be posting a few new giveaways.

Thanks to HomeMom3, Gayla, Brian, Randa, Chris, Katelyn, Lisa-Marie, Pickel, LA Blogger Girl, and Rose for talking chocolate with us last week.

Join the conversation! Everyone is welcome.

We narrowly missed an ice day here. 6 miles south and we’d have been nailed. It’s funny how weather patterns go. The kids were disappointed. I have to admit, I was too a little bit. I was hoping the kids would have a down day. They’ve been working SO hard with grades and wrestling. Only a couple more weeks of the season left and we can all relax.

I always find political season to be fun really. I’m not a real political person - I just find that it’s easy to take my negative energy out in that topic. I don’t think anyone’s, including myself, has figured out which way I’m leaning — so it should be interesting.

I do have to admit, this election is exciting historically - the first woman - the first black… I’m trying to get my kids to pay very close attention because this is actually the LAST election they will Not be voting in.

As for the Oscars — I’m looking forward to Red Carpet night. The movies I’ve not heard of. Once Red Carpet is over, I’m generally done with the whole show.

What about JLo? Twins! Now THAT’s exciting!

  Char wrote @ February 22nd, 2008 at 9:17 am

Gayla - It looks like we have escaped the worst of it too. We are just far enough south that I think everything will be good by noon. Still happy for the kids getting a down day. Hope we still have the hockey game tonight though.

I might watch the red carpet and then that will be it for me. I was pretty disappointed with the Grammy’s too. How can Amy Winehouse be deserving of anything?

Even after having twins, I am sure JLo will be back to looking fab in record time.

Good morning Gayla and Char! Things arre good here except I woke uup with a soar throat. :(

My kids are only in daycare three times per week - but we have not had any snow days around here at all. A lot of snow in November - and then…LOTS OF COLD!!! It’s finally above 20 degrees - but probably just for the weekend and then it will be 6 degress again!

Politics I am trying to get into more. I am VERY unpolitical and my goal for the year is to get more informed. So I am trying…

Movies - I see 1 every few months - but that is it. I don’t think I’ll watch the Oscars. I never really do. Maybe some hil-ghts…but I do like knowing what movies are good!

  Char wrote @ February 22nd, 2008 at 10:11 am

Brooke - sorry to hear your throat hurts. Make yourself a hot cup of tea with honey and snuggle up in a blanket - you’ll feel much better.

  Brooke wrote @ February 22nd, 2008 at 11:32 am

Char - I was snuggled up in bed blogging for a bit - but now I have to get some stuff done.

We are watching my neice Saturday night - but my husband and I are goin out tonight with no kids! That’ll be nice! Any big plans for you or anyone here?

  Char wrote @ February 22nd, 2008 at 11:40 am

Brooke - I don’t think we are doing much of anything this weekend and I am fine with that. I have a bunch of little blogging stuff I want to catch up on.

Gayla McCord wrote @ February 22nd, 2008 at 11:56 am

Brooke, sorry to hear you’re feeling bad. Feel better soon

I vowed to become more informed last election. Politics is fun and exciting to watch and it’s interesting to learn to say the least.

I’m hearing echos across the gossip world that Angelina Jolie and Jessica Alba are expecting twins too. I never knew SO many people having twins until after I had mine. It’s crazy

The hot tea and honey works. I tried it! I like Sleepytime Tea best. It’s relaxing but doesn’t make me sleepy.

Amy Winehouse — don’t get me started. She’s deplorable!

  Brooke wrote @ February 22nd, 2008 at 12:25 pm

Okay - that’s 2 votes for hot tea and honey. I have not had my daily tea yet so I will make it right now!

Gayla - you and I are in the same boat on politics. I am enjoying everything that is going on and trying to be more informed. I went to my caucus and everything…

One day at a time.

Howdy! I know, I’m a bit late to the party but kids have a snow day, had one yesterday too. Good except it is really cold outside so it isn’t fun to play in. Not really snow either since it hailed all day yesterday, more of an ice upon ice factor. I’m not chancing walking down those stairs. lol. Not with my luck.

Movies? I havne’t looked at the Oscar list yet but I’ve seen quite a bit of movies. I have three on my tv right now, two I’ve watched and one I haven’t. Haunting 24 Ikkkk, American Gangster took too long for me, I fell asleep and hubby wasn’t impressed. Tara Road is the next on my list. Oh and saw Spiderwick last weekend and really enjoyed it. Girls and hubby saw Hannah Montana in movies and had a blast. Okay hubby had fun watching the girls have fun. :)

Politics, I’m trying to watch but now I’m bored with them. I guess I’ll start watching later in the summer. Right now it’s just she did this, he did that and someone calling the other names. Geez, back in high school right?

  Lisa-Marie wrote @ February 22nd, 2008 at 1:00 pm

No snow here. It’s 84 degrees today. I did speak to my Mum in PA who was irritated with the 5 inches of snow they had (and it was still going).

We watched the Democratic debate last night and thought that both candidates look their best so far. Neither one of us can vote but we are very interested.

Daughter is on a sleep-over play date tonight so hubby and I have a date. We will probably head out to dinner downtown and then pop over to the Atlantis for a drink (it’s too expensive to eat there).

  Char wrote @ February 22nd, 2008 at 1:02 pm

Gayla - you never knew you would be such a trend setter, huh?

Brooke - Are you doing anything fun this evening or just hanging out?

Homemom3 - Be careful with the ice. Ours seems to have melted pretty quickly and now it is just wet and rainy.

  Char wrote @ February 22nd, 2008 at 1:07 pm

Lisa-Marie - how is Atlantis as a vacation spot? We have talked about taking a vacation there a few times but with three kids they just don’t have the right size rooms. Any other resorts on the island you recommend?

  Lisa-Marie wrote @ February 22nd, 2008 at 1:25 pm

Char - it depends on what you are looking for. Atlantis is absolutely incredible (ad I mean incredible) but expensive!! The rooms are outrageous, you have to pay for the kid’s club and the restaurants and cost of living here is incredibly high. The resorts on Cable Beach are beautiful too Breezes and Sandals - but a lot of it is closed or under construction just now because of Baha Mar. Personally with 3 kids for a beach vacation I would recommend going to Punta Cana (Dominican Republic) it is about the same distance, the resorts are all-inclusive (you seriously don’t need to bring any money), the beaches are as nice as here, the kid’s clubs are free and you can fly from Baltimore for 7 nights for under $1,000 per person (less for the kids). And that is including the cost of your flight. Not that I don’t love Nassau - I do. I’m just suggesting the most bang for your buck!

I’ve given up on any snow this season. I’m about to believe that we will have to move north to get any use out of the baby’s pretty purple snowsuit! I actually coerced her into putting it on so that I could take a picture in spite of her fussing. I know that it had to have been very hot with all that insulation, but I knew she would outgrow it soon and the colors made her blue eyes look so pretty.

Today was 70 degrees, so I may be officially over my “snow craving” that has been in effect since before Christmas. The daffodils are blooming like crazy and it would be a shame for them to be covered in snow.

I enjoyed reading through your blog entries and nice to “meet” all of you. Jan
