I don’t know about you, but the 4th of July right smack in the middle of the week has done a number on my schedule and my brain! In a way it has felt like a few Fridays since we got together last week. Both of our parties were huge successes and I am so happy to have a nice calm Friday in front of me.
The question this week is how are you making time for YOU this summer? I know many of us are juggling new schedules with kids home for the summer, vacations, trips to the pool, outings with the family and we are still working. I am really struggling with this one and find myself getting very short with my family if I don’t get enough time to recharge. Let’s talk! Join in the conversation by leaving a comment below.
Thanks to some great friends for making last week’s Casual Friday fun! Eliza, Gayla, Laura, Randa, Denise, Dana, Yvonne,  Lucy, Katelyn, AgentSully and Lynn.

Am I the first one here? The short answer, I’m not …
Laura wrote @ July 6th, 2007 at 8:06 am
I’ll check in later to see if anyone is here.

Laura - good morning! I am here! How are managing so far this summer?
Lucy wrote @ July 6th, 2007 at 8:10 am
Er - time for me?
Not sure I remember that one. I do have a resolution to start going to the gym again in the summer, so I guess that counts. Husband is home for the summer (hooray!) rather than at work, so in theory he can do the children for an hour every so often. We’ll see how it works out. But in reality, I’d much rather read - or blog! - than go to the gym.

Wow, you are right. Kids informed me this morning it was friday, I kept insisting it was only Thursday. oops my bad. (as the kids would say) Hope you are doing good. It’s funny you mention “me” time I just mentioned this very thing in my post yesterday.
Char wrote @ July 6th, 2007 at 8:13 am
Lucy - take a book with you to the gym - read while you ride the stationary bike.
Lucy wrote @ July 6th, 2007 at 8:14 am
Ooh yes - multitasking!
Dana wrote @ July 6th, 2007 at 8:47 am
Send them all outside! Well, the ones that can walk, anyway. I wonder if the baby will like staring up at the leaves as much as my son did. I’ll have to see. Then I’ll have hours to wile away under a tree with a book!

This week has been crazy. But I actually impressed myself. ALL of my kids are doing a morning camp for this week only. Three of them are at the same soccer field. My three year old only plays for 1 hour. During this time I decided to walk - the high school track is within walking distance so I have been taking a few laps. My husband is off today and took the kids to camp so here I am catching up on paperwork. But at least I squeezed in a few days of me time.

Oh camps! I remember getting “me time” from those. We used to send them to church camp one week every summer and we got a whole week to ourselves (not to mention that the house was clean for a week). Unfortunately, we are between churches. So, no camp this summer.

I grab time for myself here and there by either going to work however thats annoying, or shipping my fiance off to the skatepark. and i get to relax in front of the tv and play the video games. i’m so mature
hahaha he has me addicted to this stupid game

My youngest is going back to her favorite day camp at preschool next week, my oldest starts Lego Mindstorms class next week too.
I am planning on a whole “me” day next Saturday with my two best friends. We are going to do something - not sure what yet - without kids and family all day.

How am I making time for myself this summer?
That’s easy, I quit my last job two weeks before I start my new one — instant holiday!
Char wrote @ July 6th, 2007 at 10:21 am
Phil - you are a smart man! So what are you doing with your holiday?
You are so right - 4th of July on a Wednesday totally threw off my week! Yesterday I kept thinking it was Monday.
So, making time for ME, huh? Well, I’ve got to admit, with no two-legged kids of my own yet, my “me-time” usually consists of hanging out with my two doggies… taking them on walks, playing bally, going on car rides. It really calms me just to be with them.
I also take advantage of the longer days to enjoy long dinners outside at restaurants, hang out on my parents’ back deck… just relaxing things for me!
Hope everyone has a great weekend!

well, we don’t celebrate summer holidays like you gals do but I still feel overwhelmed with activities around me while working on being healthy again. I take full advantage of the time when Clayton is in nursery and I can have the time to be quiet for a while. Sometimes, I’ll steal time to go for a massage, just to give myself some space.
I get it by staying up late after my dear hubby is asleep, I can work on whatever I want without guilt! : )
I also took this whole week off and didn’t work with any clients. The rest of the month is packed though! I’m taking August off too! : )
Hey everyone. I’m in the midst of one of those nightmarish mommy days. If I’m not back within a few hours, will someone please call 911? LOL
Char wrote @ July 6th, 2007 at 11:43 am
I just took my son to his friend’s house, so he’s happy.
Jane - those 4-legged “kids” are still a lot of work. Glad you get lots of time to enjoy them.
Doris - a massage sounds wonderful - I think I will schedule one the week the kids go back to school.
Ariane - I do the opposite - I get up early to work while the rest of the house is still asleep.
Gayla - we’re here for you! Sound the alarm when you need us.
Ah… me time… what a luxury. Actually it’s not a luxury, it’s really a necessity. Have fun everyone.
Hi everyone! Sounds like everyone has some good ideas for some “me” time. For my part, “me” time is just time uninterrupted in front of the computer. I am trying to get things wrapped up to go to visit the in-laws this weekend (collective groan please…). They don’t have internet access at all, so I feel completely out of touch when we’re there.
Char wrote @ July 6th, 2007 at 1:06 pm
Randa - you need to get a web-enabled cell phone!!! I have my Treo 700w - I can check email and surf as needed. I feel for you - big groan here. Take a journal with you - then you can blog the old fashioned way!
Homemom3 wrote @ July 6th, 2007 at 2:22 pm
Char, my cell finally died all out.
But now I’ve taken my hubby’s until he gets me a new one.
Any new movies anyone? We did go see Shrek 3, The Shooters and I watched for a third time Because I said So and Bridge to Terabithia.
Randa wrote @ July 6th, 2007 at 2:50 pm
Yeah - I was eyeing somone’s Treo this week, trying not to covet it. That’s ok, I’ve downloaded several Adobe Magazines to read and an e-book someone asked for feedback on, and I can make stuff for Printables4Scrapbooking, so that should keep me busy. I also have a notebook in my purse at all times, just in case an idea for a post strikes! I’d still like a fancy phone though…
Speaking of movies, I saw Evening last weekend. It was decent. Nothing to write home about, but entertaining and good if you’re in the mood for a chick flick that is packed full of great actresses.
@Homemom3 - How was Bridge to Terabithia?
Homemom3 wrote @ July 6th, 2007 at 4:08 pm
The bridge was good, it does make ya cry though but that’s all I’m saying on it. It’ll be one that I have to eventually go out in buy or find a giveaway for it and win. lol.
Hey everyone ~ sorry I missed ya’all today. I just realized that it was the weekend of Tony Parker and Eva Longoria’s wedding. Boy this one snuck up on me! I’ve been SUPER busy today tracking every little move I can find on them.
The home front has died down a bit, but the kids are still walking on very thin ice. I swear someone jacked them up on Mountain Dew and Chocolate in the middle of the night.
company arrives any minute so today has been a major cleaning and tidying day!
Char wrote @ July 6th, 2007 at 8:13 pm
AgentSully - that was me last week - I feel for you! But enjoy your company.
Char wrote @ July 6th, 2007 at 8:14 pm
All - you have to stop over at Gayla’s blog - find out why she is so sneaky….
Homemom3 wrote @ July 6th, 2007 at 8:43 pm
I found out, hehe. Oh and Char, I did every one of those quizzes and will be posting the results all weekend. lol. I was out of focus but at least now I have something to actually post. lol.
Char - are the internet charges for the TREO very expensive? I love the concept, but I imagined you have to pay by the minute at an exhorbitant rate. How do you use the TREO for web work without it costing a fortune - just checking emails? Hey, maybe there’s a post here. LOL.
Enjoy your weekend.
Char, You are such a friendly host! Thanks for the kind words.
Char wrote @ July 7th, 2007 at 12:09 pm
Yvonne - I pay a flat rate through my cell provider for unlimited email and web usage on my Treo - I think it is about $45 per month - well worth it for me.
AgentSully - you are welcome! How was the company?
Company is great. The Whole Fam is together under one roof. Crowded but fun.
Thanks Char… that seems reasonable. It sounds like you use it quite a bit while out and about. I’m sure it would be very handy.
