Casual Friday - June 29

Casual FridaysAll I can say is that it has been a crazy week and I am really looking forward to it being over. Before I can really relax, I have to finish getting ready for a little get together we are hosting tonight (for my husband’s birthday) and we have a large 4th of July party at my parent’s farm to help host on Sunday. I will be cooking and cleaning like a mad woman today, but don’t worry, I’ll be rewarding myself with some time here throughout the day.

How are you celebrating July 4th? Do you have any good picnic recipes, kids game ideas? How was your week? These are all things I’d love to know! Stop in today and chat with us - it’s always fun.

Thanks to some great friends for making last week’s Casual Friday fun! Eliza, Gayla, Laura, Sherri, Randa, Denise, Jane, Dana, Kate, Yvonne, Doris, V-grrrl, Tracee, Angela, Ariane, Robyn, and Wendy.

Happy Friday!! How is your summer going? How’s Mom Camp, think that’s what you’ve been calling it? Acckkk, 4th of july came upon us so quickly. eeekkk. Hmm, the base is having some chick come out and sing and a small festival on main side, we’ll definitely be doing that.

Watched a new movie….Dead Silence. Man that just reminds me of Chucky and Dolly Dearest. Eeek!

Happy Bday to your hubby!

Will you be doing the blogathon july 29th?

Good morning Homemom3! Camp Mom was a little crazy this week. My son spent lots of quality time with Daddy who was on leave all week - actually all three kids got their fair share of one on one time which was great. My oldest daughter and I had gymnastics practice (she is on the team and I am a coach of a different level) three mornings this week. My youngest went to arts and crafts camp at her preschool.

I felt like I spent the whole week on the run.

I watched Happy Feet with the girls last night and have Rounders to watch at some point this weekend.

oh I remember those days, iikkk. The kids didn’t do camps this summer, not sure how I would’ve managed that. Right now we are in Camp Teething and boy is that not fun. It’s also not fair because he just turned 3 months old, this is NOT suppose to happen and it’s his 2nd tooth coming in now. eewwww.

Hubby will be taking off for the next week so he’ll get to spend one on one with him. Love it.

Happy feet was a great movie, it’s worth being on everyone’s mantle for their kids.

Ooh, we’re all in busy mode, obviously … we’re just back from a week in Crete (heatwave there - temperatures of 44-46 C - and heavy cold rain here, luckily not floods near us), my eldest is going to Guide camp for the weekend (yes, in the rain), my middle one on a sleepover tonight, and the youngest to Karate - except that the car is in the garage. I’m desperately trying to retrieve my work-head while sorting out the holiday washing and repacking for Guide camp. Anyone remember how to tie the bedroll?

  Laura wrote @ June 29th, 2007 at 8:54 am

Wow! There are a lot of people here early. I didn’t see Happy Feet or Dead Silence. I saw the Nancy Drew movie last night with the girls. I thought it was very good.

Picnic recipes. Hmm we will probably have Hot Dogs, Beans, and Corn on the Cob. My mom used to make a great Waldorf Salad with Apples, Lettuce, Walnuts, and carrots. I can’t quite get the dressing right. It wasn’t mayonnaise, but sort of like it. She also had a good trick of putting strawberries (lots and lots of them) in strawberry jello and topping it all of with whipped cream. I may do that one.

Back to work now for me. I may stop in later.

  Char wrote @ June 29th, 2007 at 8:55 am

Lucy - welcome to the crazy world of working from home in the summer with kids! Yikes!

I was never good at tying a bedroll - or any of that camping stuff at all!

Crete sounds wonderful - I would love to see pictures.

  Homemom3 wrote @ June 29th, 2007 at 9:03 am

I could never do it either, still can’t, course that’s why having a marine around comes in handy. hehe

  Denise wrote @ June 29th, 2007 at 9:13 am

Good morning, Sunshine! I am so frigging glad it is Friday! My brain is mush. :(

Happy birthday to your husband, Char.

  Char wrote @ June 29th, 2007 at 9:27 am

Good morning Laura - I just put the meatballs in the crockpot and have to go chop veggies next.

Denise - yeah - my brain is kind of mushy too.

  Laura wrote @ June 29th, 2007 at 10:08 am

Meatballs sound yummy!

  Katelyn wrote @ June 29th, 2007 at 10:20 am

I’m taking the day off from gardening because it is pouring buckets out there. I told the kids that God decided to give me a break and do the watering. They seemed suitably impressed and my nephew looked up and said, “Thanks, God.” I thought that was soo cute.

  Char wrote @ June 29th, 2007 at 10:24 am

Laura - I put the meatballs on and my husband said - oh, I was planning on going out for dinner - he doesn’t know we are having company!!!

Katelyn - keep that rain up your way. I need it to be nice so all my guests can stay outside.

Gayla McCord wrote @ June 29th, 2007 at 10:25 am

Happy Friday everyone! Boy am I glad it’s the weekend. LONG week here *sighs*

Happy Birthday to Mr. Char :)

Katelyn ~ Cute nephew!

I’m starting to get some goodies from the garden. First tomato of the season came in a couple of days ago. ohh was it good!!!

Whipped up a batch of my grandma’s pickles too. Anyone ever had cucumbers in vinegar water and onion? Yummmmmm I’ve already eaten a large container of those this week.

  Char wrote @ June 29th, 2007 at 10:39 am

Gayla - I love cucumbers in vinegar. My mom always makes them and they are so good.

My girls are being so helpful this morning. They have been chopping all my veggies for me.

  Homemom3 wrote @ June 29th, 2007 at 10:58 am

Gayla - your garden sounds so yummy already. :) My mom use to make fresh salsa with her garden. Boy do I miss it. So what happened to you this week? You sound a bit stressed.

Any new movies ya’ll?

  Randa wrote @ June 29th, 2007 at 11:03 am

Happy Friday everyone! Sound like we’ve got a busy group here. Pretty slow day for me. Just trying to make it to nap time right now- only an hour or so left.
Happy Birthday Mr. Char!
I’d love to see pictures of Crete too!

  Char wrote @ June 29th, 2007 at 11:05 am

Hey Randa! I remember those days - countdown to nap time!! I’m on the countdown to back to school now.

Hi everyone. Just getting caught up after moving. Here’s what I’m working on: address change stuff. Paying bills. Checking out new smart phones (mine is living on borrowed time).

checking out possibly switching from palm os to windows mobile. Anyone have any opinions on that?

  Char wrote @ June 29th, 2007 at 11:18 am

I have a Treo 700w which I love - it is the Windows mobile version. Glad to hear you survived the move.

  Homemom3 wrote @ June 29th, 2007 at 12:35 pm

Man I’m going to have to find out what the Treo is now. lol. My phone is currently held together with duct tape. I’m not kidding either, one of the kids got the screw on the back out and lost it.

Can I ask a favor? (feel free to delete if it is a no.

I’ve put a poll up on one of my sites and have only got one response, would love some more. What movie do you want to see this summer? These are mostly teen movies.

  Katelyn wrote @ June 29th, 2007 at 12:57 pm

I voted. I’m dying to see Nancy Drew, but I can’t get anyone to go with me.

  AgentSully wrote @ June 29th, 2007 at 1:04 pm

Thanks! I’ll have to check that out!

  Char wrote @ June 29th, 2007 at 1:19 pm

I voted. I want to see more than one of them, though.

  Homemom3 wrote @ June 29th, 2007 at 1:25 pm

Oh I made it so you could vote for multiple. I want to see all of them of course. lol.

  Dana wrote @ June 29th, 2007 at 4:24 pm

Don’t know, nope, not a one, and kinda dull.

But I know bubbles and chalk go a long way with kids.

So do squirt guns.

Big plans for the summer…write something worth submitting to someone who would pay for it. I’ve had several things published, but nothing paid to this point.

  AgentSully wrote @ June 29th, 2007 at 7:16 pm

voted!

  Homemom3 wrote @ June 29th, 2007 at 7:29 pm

Thank ya’ll so much. So how’s it going Char?

Okay just rented movies: Sleeping Dogs Lie, Stone Merchant and Happily N’Ever After. Any opinions on them?

  lynn wrote @ June 29th, 2007 at 9:00 pm

Fourth of July I am making a veggie salad from the Kraft Magazine (Love that) - we are celebrating the fourth with a family picnic the following weekend!

Can’t wait to see Harry Potter and the new Bourne movie.

Yvonne Russell wrote @ June 29th, 2007 at 10:04 pm

Late arrival… just had a 6 hour power outage… aarrghh! I’d just finished writing a blog post and at the very moment I hit “submit”, everything went black. I had to wait till the power came back on to see if my blog post (and my computer) had “survived”. Luckily all seems fine.

Gayla, there’s nothing like freshly picked home grown tomatoes. Yum! Enjoy your weekend everyone.

  Char wrote @ June 30th, 2007 at 9:44 am

Homemom3 - well I survived my stint as party hostess yesterday. We had a great time but I am so tired today.

Lynn - I love that magazine too - its sitting on my desk right now. Thanks for stopping in - do you have a blog or web site we can visit you at?

Yvonne - power outages are the worst! I’m glad you didn’t lose anything though.
