Casual Friday - Let’s Dish

Casual FridaysIt’s Friday again and I’m seeing stars! Between the Harry Potter movie madness, the Posh and Becks show, Emmy nomination announcements, and the fact that I am taking 3 tween boys to see Transformers today, it seems that the celebrities are at every turn. Speaking of celebs, even though Victoria Beckham is sporting some serious 80’s fashion, I do love this picture of her with her son on the soccer field.

Victoria Beckham Posh kids soccer

By now you should all be getting the hang of this Casual Friday thing. Stop in anytime and join in our conversation - as it often takes a path of its own. Since there are so many celebs making the news right now, let’s dish a bit today!

What movies have you seen or do you want to see? Sound off on some of the celebrity goings on. Give us your Emmy nominations. Or take the conversation in a totally different direction - sort of like what happens when you get a bunch of good friends around the table with a cup of coffee!

And thanks to all who stopped in for the fun last week - Eliza, Gayla, Laura, Randa, Dana, Yvonne,  AgentSully,  Amanda, Ingo, Brown Baron, Angela, Jo and V-grrrl.

Wow, it’s already up and here I was thinking I would beat you. Ooh I LOVE this topic, I actually have two blogs on the subject. I’l have to get back with ya on the Emmy’s, didn’t read through them all yet.

Hubby and son LOVED the Transformers. Oh I saw Premonition (FINALLY) and liked it a lot as well. That’s right, not LOVE but liked. I also saw Hills have Eyes 2, lets just say don’t eat anything while watching this. Talk about making ya wanna get sick. Ickkk.

Tom and Katie Holmes are throwing a Welcome to America party with Will Smith and family.

I haven’t seen the Transformers movie, but I remember how imaginative and clever the toys were.

I can imagine the movie effects would be great. Whoever came up with the idea in the first place for Transformers must have had a fun job.

I added essentialkeystrokes to a little Meme. http://homemom3.blogspot.com/2007/07/feed-your-feed-meme.html

Good morning Ladies! I just love the future post option in Word Press! I was on the ball and had this ready to launch itself today.

As far as the Emmy’s goes, I hope Grey’s Anatomy does well. And for children’s programming I vote for Hannah Montana.

HomeMom3 - you are adding to my meme debt ;-) I’m going to catch up with them over the weekend if all goes well.

Yvonne - how long does it take for the US movies to debut in Australia? Are there any movies coming out of Aussie that you think will be hits here?

  Homemom3 wrote @ July 20th, 2007 at 6:57 am

oh but it is one that increases readers. :)

Brown Baron wrote @ July 20th, 2007 at 6:58 am

Yay I’m not late :)
We’ll be watching the Transformers over the weekend. The kids can’t wait. I’d like to watch a good horror/suspense movie too. Any recommendations?

Yvonne Russell wrote @ July 20th, 2007 at 6:59 am

It used to be quite a while, but e.g. Tranformers is showing here now - not sure when it was released in the US. I think with DVD’s being released so quickly after the movie, they have shortened release times to make the most of the movie going audience.

A diffferent sort of celebrity… but how’s Harry Potter fever in the US. People are already lining up outside the stores in the UK. It’s on sale here in Australia in about 12 hours time… Saturday 9.01 a.m. Australian time.

  Char wrote @ July 20th, 2007 at 7:05 am

Brown Baron - We are seeing Transformers at 3:30 this afternoon - I’ll let you know what I think. My girls are going to see Ratatouille at the same time.

Yvonne - the Harry Potter fever is definitely going here. We live in a relatively small town and it made the front page of the papers and all the book stores are having Potter events.

  Homemom3 wrote @ July 20th, 2007 at 7:15 am

brown baron- Hills have Eyes 2, The Messengers, Bug. Hope that helps.

  Lucy wrote @ July 20th, 2007 at 7:23 am

Oh, we are so far behind with the cinema - we’re still waiting for the holidays to start here in the UK (today at 3.30!). We haven’t seen Shrek 3 yet, or Pirates of the Caribbean 3, or Rise of the Silver Surfer, or …

Still, there’s been so much rain here in the UK since forever, that going to the flicks may be the only thing we can do all summer.

  Char wrote @ July 20th, 2007 at 7:36 am

Lucy - Shrek 3 was really cute. I’m not a big Pirates fan so I didn’t see that. Send some of your rain back this way - we are in a drought and everything is just dry and dusty.

  Lucy wrote @ July 20th, 2007 at 7:54 am

I wish I could send you some of our rain - my daughter is supposed to be crowned Rose Queen for our village tomorrow, and it looks like it will be a washout, literally!

I like that outfit Posh is wearing, too! Check out those heels she’s wearing - to her son’s soccer game!! I guess when you have the reputation of being MAJAH (that’s supposed to be the way she says, “major”!) you have to keep up with it anywhere you go!

I want to see the Chuck and Larry movie with Adam Sandler and Kevin James. It looks really funny!

Jane, P&B Girls

  Char wrote @ July 20th, 2007 at 8:32 am

Jane - I couldn’t imagine wearing heels that high anywhere! How does she walk on the soccer field without sinking into the ground. Outfit aside, she really does look like she is having fun and it is a great motherly shot.

  Pickel wrote @ July 20th, 2007 at 8:39 am

I am a HUGE Harry Potter fan and can’t wait to see the movie in theaters. I can’t wait until I can share it with my sons. The 4 year old is still a bit too young.

I miss having conversations with my middle school students about the foreshadowing in the books. Ahhh….

Gayla McCord wrote @ July 20th, 2007 at 9:03 am

Good Morning Ladies!

I went and seen Harry Potter last week. I loved it! but the rest of the family were not so thrilled. Mostly because some of the main characters thus far were not so active.

I ordered my book on Amazon and it’s due to arrive here tomorrow. Guess you know how I’ll be spending my Sunday :)

As for those heels as the soccer game? Every time I’ve EVER tried to wear heels through the grass I sink and walk right out of them. But then again, I have this real knack for making a full spectical of myself whether I like it or not. And most times it involves horrifying public humiliation.

I’m on the Chuck and Larry waiting list too. I’m looking so forward to seeing it!

  Char wrote @ July 20th, 2007 at 9:11 am

Pickel - what grade did you teach?

Gayla - Maybe these stars have a secret walking in heels on grass technique?

  Ingo wrote @ July 20th, 2007 at 9:18 am

Posh needs something to eat…

Gayla McCord wrote @ July 20th, 2007 at 9:28 am

Yeah Char, I’m thinking the secret is called a trainer to make you weigh less than a pencil.

  Angela wrote @ July 20th, 2007 at 9:32 am

I love that photo of her! It shows she is not afraid to do her thing (ie: be a good Mom) even in pumps!!

  Char wrote @ July 20th, 2007 at 9:53 am

Ingo - she needs some good German bread, eh? ;-)

Gayla - that must be it because she is way skinny.

Angela - I agree with you - that is the main reason I like the pic.

  Amanda wrote @ July 20th, 2007 at 10:09 am

Completely off topic. Did you get the alexa toolbar?

  Amanda wrote @ July 20th, 2007 at 10:09 am

FOR FIREFOX. GOD I CANNOT FINISH A SENTENCE TODAY

  Laura wrote @ July 20th, 2007 at 10:25 am

My daughter saw Harry Potter last weekend, but I have not seen it.

Do you guys like the Alexa toolbar? My husband looked at my computer the other day and said, “what are all those extra things you have on your browser?” It was the Stumble toolbar, the Google toolbar, the PayPerPost toolbar …

  Denise wrote @ July 20th, 2007 at 11:11 am

Good morning, all! Great topic. I have an entertainment blog so I like to keep abreast of what all is going on. I don’t have small children, but I, myself, would love to see the transformer movie.

But the one I really want to see is Chuck & Larry with Adam Sandler and Kevin James. That’s more my speed.

I hope everyone has a great weekend.

  Char wrote @ July 20th, 2007 at 11:19 am

Amanda - I haven’t installed that toolbar yet - not sure I will. What is the benefit? I feel like Laura - I already have a bunch of extras.

Laura - did your daughter like HP?

Denise - I don’t think Transformers is for the small kids - so you would be fine going it alone. Chuck & Larry seems to be on lots of “want to see” lists.

Does anyone want to see Hairspray?

  Angela wrote @ July 20th, 2007 at 11:41 am

The only tool bar I use is the Stumble Tool Bar. I’m not sure but I think most tool bars come with spy ware which is why I tend to steer clear of those. (I could be wrong.)

  Denise wrote @ July 20th, 2007 at 11:58 am

YES! I want to see Hairspray too. And Evening, with Meryl Streep.

  Homemom3 wrote @ July 20th, 2007 at 12:22 pm

Char I actually want to see Hairspray but I’ll wait for it to hit DVD.

I agree, Posh/Victoria is just too thin. But then again aren’t most of the popular celebrities these days. Look at Katie Holmes, Angelina Jolie, etc. Victoria looks great in the outfit but I’d love to see her actually wearing tennis shoes. lol. I doubt that will ever happen.

Brown Baron wrote @ July 20th, 2007 at 1:15 pm

Thanks for the recommendation Homemom. I’m going to check those out :)

  Pickel wrote @ July 20th, 2007 at 2:40 pm

Gayla,
I taught Middle School Language Arts, mostly 7th grade. I LOVED it. Before that I taught high school but they were all taller than me. I never thought that I would like Middle School because they were too squirmy but they were awesome. I ended up getting my masters in young adult lit., thus the fascination with Harry Potter.

  Char wrote @ July 20th, 2007 at 2:53 pm

Pickel - hats off to you! I’m not sure how much I would like that age, but you never know.

I’m off to the movies! Keep the conversation going and I’ll let you know later what I thought of it.

  Homemom3 wrote @ July 20th, 2007 at 6:49 pm

let us know how the movies went.

  Homemom3 wrote @ July 21st, 2007 at 12:27 am

anyone getta book? We didn’t win any prizes but we had fun.

  Char wrote @ July 21st, 2007 at 8:59 am

We saw Transformers and it was definitely a movie for the boys. You can read my whole review at Transformers Movie Review

I didn’t get the Harry Potter book - we’ll probably pick it up at Border’s next week.

Brown Baron wrote @ July 21st, 2007 at 10:54 am

Your review is out? I’m heading over there to read it hehe. Thanks Char :)

  AgentSully wrote @ July 21st, 2007 at 12:07 pm

Hey Char,
Sorry I didnt’ make it by yesterday. I’m finding the summer to be very busy. I’ve surrendered to that and am trying to lower my expectations of how much I can get done. Come next fall I’m sure I’ll be able to get back into high gear.

Celebrities. Here’s my prediction for the cover of US magazine in 5 years: Jennifer Aniston and Ashton Kutcher hook-up. Here’s the basis for my prediction. I was cleaning the other day and came across an old US mag. On the cover was J.Lo. In either corner of the cover was Angelna & Billy Bob and the other corner was Jen Aniston and Brad Pitt. We know what happened there. Today Demi Moore and Jennifer have become friends. I think we’ll see a Demi/Ashton split with Jen sliding in to catch Ashton. (a la Denise Richards style)

Of course this is all in good fun! But I bet that would make the next blockbuster headline if it happened!

smiles!
Sully

  Homemom3 wrote @ July 21st, 2007 at 2:32 pm

Love the review Char, I just got my Harry Potter book and am about to post about it. :) (no, not spoilers, just about getting it)
