Casual Friday - Oh What A Week

Casual FridayYou know, I am convinced that there is no such thing as a boring week. We started the week off on Monday with all three kids going off to school, Oh Happy Day! (Wendy gets to experience it today) Tuesday my husband came down with something and has been in bed sick all week. My youngest is having a hard time adjusting to the full day Kindergarten schedule and is like a monster unleashed every night at bedtime. Then to top it off she decided to stick a peanut up her nose while I was driving this evening. Does the drama ever end?

There was good drama, too. I’ve been enjoying my peace and quiet during the day. Four of my blogs had more than 10,000 unique visitors each this month - an all time high, and Casual Keystrokes even had an article featured on the Huffington Post - you know that mega-blog that is the #5 on the Technorati #100?

Anyhow, how was your week? Join us for Casual Friday and let us know. Did the kids go back to school yet? Do you have any plans for the holiday weekend? Any wild kid stories to tell? Everyone is welcome!

Thanks to Eliza, Brown Baron, Brooke, Agent Sully, Ingo, Lynn, Jane, Sharon, Denise, Laura, and MomKnowsEverything for joining the fun last week.

This time of year is always so crazy. Monday our daughter started school. Tonight we go to my parents house to look at my sister’s wedding photos. Then I go to the first Iowa football game of the year tomorrow. Then we catch our breath on Sunday. Then the big county fair on Monday. Then our son starts school on Tuesday. Then my wife’s birthday on Thursday and then a 4 hour drive to Iowa for the 2nd Iowa game on Saturday. Who has time to think.

Congrats on the traffic this month. That’s pretty nice traffic to spread across that many blogs. Keep up the good work.

Mike - thanks for kicking this off this morning! I’m already on coffee #2 and have a ton of work to wrap up today.

Ah, college football season! Got those black & gold pom poms ready? Sounds like a busy week - hope you survive it.

Brown Baron wrote @ August 31st, 2007 at 9:18 am

Congrats on the increased traffic and getting featured on Huffington Post!

I’ve been busy working on some changes to my blog and I’m getting near to implementing the new look. A few more minor details and it sould be good to go. Being able to test things locally is a great help.

Brown Baron - I can’t wait to see the new look! Please be sure to let me know when it is ready to go.

Good morning everyone! Just thought I’d pop over and say a quick hello and a BIG congrats to Char on the Huffington mention. Kudo’s girl! That rocks.

With this being the last day of the month, I always find myself trying to squeeze out that last bit of profits before the stroke of midnight and the thrust into a brand new month and a big ZERO dollars on my spreadsheet. It’s kind of like a game almost.

We’ve got a busy week ahead here. We’re doing a bit of remodeling in the basement. We’re painting the girls room tomorrow morning so we can be ready for the new carpet that we’re having put in the basement next week.

Tomorrow evening, I’m going to kick off my fall activities by making a hefty batch of my grandma’s clove apple butter. I always love doing that with my cousin and talking about grandma. It will be a year next week that she passed. Time goes by so quick.

I’m also taking up ONE more hobby, AS IF I had time! But I’ve always loved to paint, so I’m going to begin taking some folk art classes and start painting again. I’ve always loved the creative release it gives.

Congrats to everyone on the kiddos being back in school. Now we can all hunker down and gear up for the holiday traffic.

  Char wrote @ August 31st, 2007 at 9:27 am

Gayla - wow! sounds like you are going to be so busy. The apple butter sounds delicious. Send me the recipe please. Not that I will make it, but my mom does so she can make it.

Painting sounds like fun. If I ever get myself reorganized and used to my new kid-free schedule, I’d like to take a Yoga or Pilates class.

ugh sounds like myself and the three youngest has what your hubby had. We still have it that’s why my blog has been so quiet, granted I still post my giveaways. But no four posts in a day thing. How did I miss your peanutbutter up the nose. eeek. My youngest will start (if she isn’t sick) preschool next week. WIshing her well now. No new movies this week, but who knows what the hubby will bring home.

  Char wrote @ August 31st, 2007 at 10:12 am

HomeMom3 - Oh, I hope you are all feeling better soon. Hubby has been so sick this week - I have never seen anything hit him this hard.

Actually she put a peanut up her nose while I was driving - and then went into hysterics over it. I am thinking that somehow it came out on her own while the drama was going on, because she seems fine this morning.

  Laura wrote @ August 31st, 2007 at 10:16 am

You know, both of mine have been in school for a couple of weeks now (and this is not the first year that they’re both in school either).

I found myself calling husband earlier this week and saying, “you know, I really miss the girls today.” I guess I just got used to them being home all day …

homemom3, I’m sorry that you’re sick. I don’t know how you manage four posts a day, anyway. Whew!!

  Char wrote @ August 31st, 2007 at 10:51 am

Laura - I am sure I will get to that point - but it will take a while. How old are your girls?

Gayla McCord wrote @ August 31st, 2007 at 10:57 am

@ Laura ~ the good thing is you really ‘miss’ them. That just shows how much you love them.

@ Eliza ~ Hope you get to feeling better soon. Isn’t it amazing how the first week of the back to school season seems to unleash the flu season too? Go figure!

@ Char ~ I’d send you the recipe but then I’d have to shoot you LOL

Yvonne Russell wrote @ August 31st, 2007 at 11:08 am

Congratulations on the Huffington Post kudos and the great traffic Char! You’re a star!

  Laura wrote @ August 31st, 2007 at 11:08 am

Hey Char!

My fizzy Gogurts samples just came. The dog was barking and it was Fed Ex at the door. Now I have at least one topic to write about next week.

  Char wrote @ August 31st, 2007 at 11:14 am

Yvonne - thanks!!

Laura - put some in the freezer and refrigerate some. Have your kids try them both ways. They are very different frozen. We all prefer them frozen.

Gayla - If you don’t give me the recipe then how will I know how good it tastes? It’s not like I can come over for lunch - although that would be fun.

Char,

I didn’t see the Huffington Post thing. That’s awesome! As for my week, it’s been nuts. I had my original sponsor drop out for next month’s contest, so I had to find a way to cover the $1200+ first prize (which hasn’t been announced), which it appears that I have a shot at doing, so I’m going to just go for it, and if I have to cover it, I have to cover it. Finished a bunch of “real work” projects this week, but was stuck replacing a friend as my designer. I can’t imagine how much I’ll be able to get done when this kid goes to school!

Mike

  Laura wrote @ August 31st, 2007 at 11:41 am

Thanks Char!

I’ve got to run now!

  Amanda wrote @ August 31st, 2007 at 11:44 am

Well I quit my full time job and work from home now which i dont know if it is a blessing or a curse. But so far I am not going to need to take up a part time job, the only thing I could think I would take one up for would be to pay for a PR woman I found. ugh the troubles of trying to be famous.

  Char wrote @ August 31st, 2007 at 11:47 am

Mike - Oh my - that is a large number to have to cover - keep us posted. Real work projects are always good - that’s what I am working on too.

Amanda - congrats on making the transition to WAHM!! It is a blessing and once you get used to it you will wonder how you ever managed to not work at home.

  homemom3 wrote @ August 31st, 2007 at 11:58 am

Thanks, I’m getting better, earlier this week temps soared to 104 which is unusual for me. Now fever is gone, trying to catch up on emails and housework, three sick kids. One that claims she isn’t sick. Fun, fun, fun. I just have the coughy stuff. ikk.

  homemom3 wrote @ August 31st, 2007 at 12:01 pm

Gayla- I think your spam box is catching my emails to ya. I sent you a few this past week. Let me know if I need to resend them.

  kailani wrote @ August 31st, 2007 at 1:57 pm

Congrats on the mega hits! You’re definitely doing something right! Here’s to 10,000 more!

  Charity wrote @ August 31st, 2007 at 3:22 pm

Drama, drama. My life is full of it too! This week went by in the blink of an eye it seems. My 3rd grader didn’t start until Wednesday, but I spent Monday and Tuesday scrambling to get clothes and supplies. We also had two company picnics to attend this week, and an open house for the school (it’s brand new this year, and just up the street from our house!). Whew, TGIF.

Grats the Huffington Post! :)

  homemom3 wrote @ August 31st, 2007 at 3:47 pm

oh we got those fizzies, I’ve been having neighbor kids try them too just to get MORE honest answers. lol. You can guess the response. lol. Course I may have created monsters now on my street. lol.

Oh man, I have the worst head ache ever. I woke up that way. I’m pretty sure I’ll probably put another pot of coffee on because tylenol is not doing a thing to put a dent in this.

Let’s see, today is my husband’s birthday. I blogged his birthday card and posted a pic of him. I’m excited because when the kids wake up from their nap I’m going to take them shopping to buy presents for their dad for his birthday. We’ll pick up a cake mix and bake a cake for him tonight. I hate to admit this but I’ve never baked him a cake before so I’m pretty excited about it.

We are having friends over Monday all day for a bar b q. These are friends that we only see over the Christmas Holidays. So it will be fun to catch up with them. I hope they will be able to spend the entire afternoon with us on Monday.

Don is on vacation all of next week so our long weekend doesn’t have to end. We will hit the gym every single day I’m sure. My trainer is kicking my butt. I am so sore today. I feel like I’ve been hit with a ton of bricks and my butt is killing me. That’s a good thing though!

Thanks for inviting me over to your Casual Friday Char. I’m looking forward to reading the rest of the comments once I get everybody settled in tonight. ;)

Angela Stevens wrote @ August 31st, 2007 at 3:53 pm

PS Congratulations on the Huffington mention! That’s exciting and something to be proud of! ;)

Angela Stevens wrote @ August 31st, 2007 at 3:53 pm

PPS Your daughter did the pea nut trick and mine did the bracelet bead trick in her ear. Joy!

  Char wrote @ August 31st, 2007 at 7:45 pm

Kailani - thanks for stopping in today!

Charity - that sounds like a busy week. Its nice to have a school that close though.

HomeMom3 - how did the kids like the Fizzix?

Angela - hope your head feels better and don’t forget to take a picture of that cake.

Well big congratulations to you–that’s quite a big thing to be posted over there. I’ve never visited them but with your article to tempt me I may have to go check it out.

Michelle - thanks for stopping in. I loved all your getting kids to sleep tips.
