Fridays are pretty relaxed around here. I just open up the comments for the whole day and you are welcome to join in the conversation at any time and in any way you please.
You aren’t scared of Friday the 13th are you? Does the fact that today’s date is 07/13/07 mean its luckier than the other Friday the 13th’s? You bet it does! Why, because today is my birthday and 3 times 13 equals 39 and that is how old I turn today.
Since today is such a wild and wacky day, let’s talk about superstitions, Friday the 13th trivia, strange birthdays, and really anything else you want to discuss. And since the topic of movies always comes up - No, I have never seen any of the Friday the 13th movies.
And all the virtual birthday cake is on me! So grab your cup of coffee and take a few minutes just for yourself and join us.

Happy Birthday Char! Hmm, Friday the 13th has always been a good day for me. I think my daughter will have a luckier day just because she got the whole 7/7/7 this year, it’s gotta mean something.
As for superstitions, not really sure. I do close my eyes and mouth going over bridges and try hard not to breathe. Don’t know why. Oh and I refuse to go under a ladder.

the 13th don’t skeer me none. I had my Monday this week and that’s enough to break that phobia LOL

HomeMom3 - You don’t close your eyes when you drive over a bridge do you? I am not very superstitious - it’s all fun! I lived on the 13th floor my freshman year in college.
Gayla - have fun at the fair! My girls would love it. How did your birthday turn out this week?

Monday? What happened Gayla? I’ll have to go check it out now. Have a blast at the fair, don’t forget to eat some pink floss for me.
Char- no scary shows lately but I did watch Astronaut Farmer, which was pretty funny.

Happy Birthday Char!
It was a Friday the 13th when my wifewas told by her doctor she is going to have a baby. Later that day went to a Bruce Springsteen concert. Again one week later the doctor confirmed it after another test was done. That was on our wedding day.

I’m not superstitious about Friday the 13th, but I do think that it will be a lucky day for you since it’s your birthday.
My irrational fears are going through tunnels (I hate that) and driving next to really large trucks!

headed out for pizza. Char- yes I do close my eyes. Bridges make me extremely nervous, anytime we are headed up to one that I see I picture the call falling off and getting in the water. I always plan my escape just in case, guess you can understand why I never learned to swim now. I hate being stuck in closed spaces or water.
As I child, I was in a car that sank to the bottom of a lake.

Happy Birthday Char. Oh my gosh, Homemom3 - I can only imagine how scary that must have been for you, especially as a child. No wonder you have an aversion to crossing bridges.

It was the third time for my wife to see Bruce Springsteen in concert. She saw him for the first time while she worked in Canada in the early 90’s. I have seen Bruce Springsteen two times and love his E-Street Band. We do three of his songs with the band. One of the songs we cover is called ‘Youngstown’. It is on ‘The Ghost Of Tom Joad’ but we play it the version you find on ‘Live In New York City’ (by the way - that concert is available on a great DVD just in case you need a gift for your husband). Anyway, one day we where rehearsing with the band when our bass player got a call on his cell phone. His pregnant grilfriend was sent to hospital to give birth. Our bass player turned to us and said ‘I have to go now. But I want to play ‘Youngstown’ before I leave.’ So we played that song and he was awesome. Then he took his jacket and left. He arrived just in time to welcom his daughter Helena. Yep, our bass player is damn cool (and that was his fourth child).

13 has always been lucky for me. Maybe because I was born on a 13th too. My oldest son actually has the same birthday that I do. . talk about impeccable timing haha.

I thought I had somehow missed your birthday. I knew it was this week because I have it written down.
So… both you AND Gayla turned 39 years old this week. How ironic is THAT!!? I feel like the baby of the two of you at 37.
When I think of being in the late 30’s I can’t believe how fast life is. Now that I think of it even more I can’t remember if Gayla turned 39 OR 40!?
As for Friday the 13th, I think it’s going to be tricky for me. I’m just feeling a tad bit on the blah side. I wish Aunt Flow would leave and NEVER come back again - EVER!

Okay, as for the car sinking thing, honestly I don’t quite remember much of it. I was between two and three. But guessing it may have done something in the head there. I always asked my dad questions about being near a lake and a car rolling in and a tow truck, later is when I found out it had been true. Eeek!
on the 13th thing, I just heard on the radio one lady made the comment that if she has errands and leaves the house but remembers (after leaving) that she forgot something she refuses to go back in until everything else is done…just in case it messes up her time in space.
Another, this time a man, he said his father always had to have a fan blowing over him when he slept to blow away all the ghosts.
Oh and I rented movies: The Last Mimzy (kids), Surrender, Dorothy (mine, old one), and Dead Like Me Season 2 (me)

I don’t know anyone into superstitions…except my husband. If he is looking forward to something or particularly if he makes an off-handed comment about someone in a situation and he suddenly finds the situation dumped in his lap, he seems to think he caused it by what he said.

Happy Birthday and you know what? The only people that Friday the 13th was REALLY unlucky for were the Templar Knights! So I think since it’s your birthday then that definately makes it your lucky day.
