Casual Fridays

Casual FridaysAfter a discussion with my blogging pal Gayla this week, I have decided to tweak the focus of this blog. Don’t worry, you probably won’t even notice! While my first blog, Essential Keystrokes, is focused on Web design, marketing, blogging and other techie stuff, this one has developed into a giant mixing bowl of randomness.

Looking back through my archives, it is obvious to me that my most commented on posts are ones that deal with the work/life balance. After all, isn’t that what most of us are always aiming for – that perfect balance between career, family, and personal happiness?

I am going to try to stay more focused in my posting. Afterall, I would like this site to be a place where you, the reader, come to learn from me and share your experiences, too, so we can learn from you, too.

And what about Casual Fridays? I’d like to open Fridays up to a larger conversation. Bring your cup of coffee and let’s talk. Bring a story, a tip, a link, a question, a joke – whatever you want to talk about. It’ll be a bit like Liz’s Open Comment Night, but at a much more leisurely pace. Stop in anytime!

Oh I love this Char!

Hmm, can we start off by talking about how we are all trying to prepare for our kids to get out of school? hehe. Yep, still not sure here but I think I’m going to take the approach of a homeschooler on this and once they get done with schoolwork have them go outside and play with friends….assuming chores are done.

You?

Good morning Eliza! I am not ready to have everyone home all day. Actually, we will stay pretty busy this summer. I will be teaching gymnastics three mornings a week and then will work at home in the afternoons.

My favorite thing to implement in the summer is mandatory quiet time for an hour each afternoon. During quiet time the kids may read or play quietly on their beds and that is it. Once quiet time is over, everyone is ready for the second part of the day.

Good morning Gayla! When do your kids get out of school? My preschooler finishes up on May 23 and the big kids are out June 7.

The kids have 1.5 weeks left. I can hardly wait LMAO

Hubby and I have been spending some quality time visiting antique shops etc. to enjoy our time before the summer break. :)

Kendra – will definitely keep you posted – I’m sure you have some good ideas too.

Gayla – I’m glad you are banking your sanity time! Its going to be a long summer.

Wow, so soon. Mine don’t get out until June 14th. :( Oh and now they want to go to summer school. :(

Even June 14th seems early to me! My (British) children are at school until nearly the end of July – it’s usually about the 21st they break up. And then back to school early September – 4th to 5th, usually.

If your children finish at the end of May – when do they go back?

Lucy – our’s go back the third week of August. We have a long break in the summer, but we only have about 10 days off at Christmas.
