Blogtipping on April 1st

blogtippingNo foolin’! It is time to go blogtipping again. What is that you ask? It is a way to introduce your readers to a few new good blogs each month. Easton of BusinessBlogWire started this monthly tradition and it is lots of fun.

I have discovered so many new blogs this month, but I am going to limit this to a highlight of three - and I’m cheating a bit, too. I am not offering any constructive criticism today, just kudos for making me smile this month.

  • GagaForLuLu - I love mommy blogs with attitude - and this one definitely has it. Unfortunately, it also reminds me of how boring I am. Kendra works from home, out of the home, has a personal blog, writes at Diabetes Notes and is mother of three - we have a lot in common - and I think that is another reason I can really relate!
  • Polliwog’s Pond - How can you resist a header this cute? Polli has added her two cents worth in the Gotta Get Goals meme and she also hosts the Carnival of Good Stuff. You know, Polli, all this positive is contagious!
  • Inside Fatherhood - We can’t let the Moms have all the glory this month! Steve at Inside Fatherhood is SuperDad - he is a stay at home Dad of 5 kids! You bet he has a unique outlook on parenting and some good stories to tell, too.

Don’t forget to do your own blogtipping this month!

Blogtipping Meets Thursday Thirteen

BlogtippingIt’s March 1 which means it is blogtipping day, but it is also Thursday and the great news is that the official Thursday Thirteen hub site is under new “management” and will keep going. In an effort to be super efficient and share some major link love, I am going to share thirteen blogs I have enjoyed this month:

  1. Free Stuff for Kids by Randa Clay
  2. Mommy Needs Coffee
  3. The Bean Blog - trying to stay sane while raising five kids
  4. Two Knives by Lisa Ray
  5. BlogFabulous
  6. Courtney at MultipleStreamMama
  7. Colleen at Simple Kind of Life
  8. Kristen King at Lively Women
  9. Gayle at Parenting Teens Blog
  10. Robert at Middle Zone Musings
  11. Writing Thoughts
  12. Steve at Inside Fatherhood
  13. Thoughts & Philosophies by Carolyn

There you have it. A little bit of everything but they are all worth a read.

Blogtipping Day is Today

BlogtippingLooking for some new reads? I have a few for you today. It’s the first of the month which means it is time to go blogtipping. It’s easy - you can do it. Just find three blogs you like, tell us what you like about them and leave a small constructive tip for the blogger. Be nice - it’s fun.

My favorite new read of the month is Busymom.

  1. I love her tagline - better parenting through coffee - yep, that’s me!
  2. Great use of colors and fun graphics.
  3. She always writes with such a fun, tongue in cheek style guaranteed to leave you smiling.

Small tip: Um, don’t have any - you are doing great!

Helping me get back into healthy habits is, Live Life…Organics & Your Health

  1. Her blog’s focus is on a subject that was near to my heart and needs to become a priority again.
  2. Very crisp design.
  3. I like the calendars for the date.

Small tip: something funky is going on with the alignment on the right hand side

And I’m also tipping Step-by-Step, Gayla’s blog on blended families.

  1. While I am not in a blended family situation, Gayla’s blog gives very good insight into the dynamics of a blended family which is helpful to me when dealing with my kids friends who may be.
  2. I like that it is a team effort - giving the reader more diverse insights.
  3. Very soothing colors.

Small tip: the BYOB graphic is stretched in the sidebar and a fun header would make the blog more inviting.

And I have a new gig! I joined the b5Media team today as the blogger for the Weary Parent blog. Come over and say hi - better yet, if you have kids that fall into the teen or tween age group, subscribe and join me on my daily journey into raising tweens and teens.

Blogtipping New Year’s Day

BlogtippingIt is almost 9 a.m. and I am the only one in the house awake. Do you know how unusual this is? I’m staying quiet and enjoying my uninterrupted time at my desk so I can do a New Year’s version of Blogtipping.

If you haven’t tried Blogtipping yet, what are you waiting for? It’s a New Year and time to try new things. Here are the basics:

  • Select three blogs (could be your favorites, new favorites or new discoveries)
  • Highlight three positives about each blog
  • Give one piece of constructive criticism (that’s the tip)
  • Don’t forget to categorize or tag it as blogtipping (so Easton can find you and give you some link love)

I am going to start the New Year off on the right foot! I have added Laura from I’m an Organizing Junkie to my reader this month and she is going to get me organized this year.

  • Your blog graphics are too much fun! The colors are great and the layout just draws you in.
  • I like the organizing how-tos, the pictures and the weekly features like Menu Planning Monday.
  • Your practical, one-size does not fit all style of writing and guiding is nice.
  • My Tip: Make your header clickable so that it is easy to get back to your main page if you have come in “through the back door” or on a single post.

Gayla has taken the helm at Supernanny Rules and has done a great job of adding her own experiences to the mix.

  • I love your real mom advice and accounts as a supplement to the Supernanny content.
  • The layout is clean and easy to follow, but (see tip below)
  • I like the fact that you invite parents to get involved in the discussion, especially the post on When the Brat Comes to Play.
  • My tip: Let’s liven this one up a bit - too white. I’m not sure how much creative license you can take with this one, but even a colored background for the page to make the white pop a bit would be nice.

A new blog in my reader this month is 5 Minutes for Mom.

  • I love the cheery layout and the great use of photos, pictures and banners on a regular basis.
  • The weekly features, like Tackle it Tuesday, give the site a nice flow.
  • I like the side bar organization with headings like “Start Here” it makes you want to stick around for a while.
  • My tip: Well, I don’t really have one. Keep up the good work. You have obviously put a lot of work and thought into this blog and it shows.

Well, I knew it wouldn’t last. Two little darlings have come to my office to join me. Now it is your turn to do some blog tipping!

Mouse Got Your Fingers? I Have Solutions.

Yes, we’ve all heard the expression, “Cat Got Your Tongue?” and know that it has to do with not knowing what to say. I have my own saying, “Mouse Got Your Fingers?”, which must have to do with not knowing what to blog on any given day. Writer’s block be-gone! Here are a few good ideas to help you beat the blogging blues…

Easton provides us with a list of 111 things to blog about. Now, if you can’t find something on the list that gets you going, then check out Liz’s gift of 31 topics January.
Still stumped? Join our Red Hot Bloggers blog carnivals or a group writing project. If you are lucky, you may get tagged with a fun meme. If you aren’t so lucky, start your own.

So, blog away! No more wasting away the day thinking of what to say.
