Blogtipping Day

Blogtipping at businessblogwire.comThe first of each month is Blogtipping Day. The rules are simple, the rewards are great! In short - find three blogs you recently discovered, love, or deserve mention and write three nice things about each blog and give each blog a “tip” - meaning, a suggestion as to what they could do to make things even better.

This month I am going to feature:

1. ParentHacks - As a mother of three, I am always finding something interesting at ParentHacks!

  • I love the simple design and the logo is perfect.
  • The endless supply of tried and true ideas about parenting all ages keeps it on my daily read list.
  • Parent Hacks supports the concept that we are all in this together by making it a collaborative effort - everyone can contribute and share their own Parent Hack

Tip: I’m not sure I have one! You are doing great.

2. Katelyn at Free Holiday Ideas

  • Everyone is looking for new ideas around the holidays and this site delivers.
  • I love the header - its fun and pictures speak 1000 words.
  • The interactivity of a frequent poll is nice, too, and she is a great blog carnival hostess.

Tip: Give the images in your posts some space - read my how to on putting whitespace around images.

3. Seanrox at Have Laptop Will Travel

  • The potato soup recipe was awesome.
  • Your blog covers such a wide range of topics without seeming random and you have unique writing style - do I detect a slightly warped sense of humor?
  • What? No ads?

Tip: Stumped again. Your blog is clean, well organized and professional. Keep it up.

So, there you have it. Another month, three more great blogs! Oh, and thanks to Kris at Blogging for Money for tipping me today.

5 Easy Ways to Gain New Readers and Meet New Bloggers

Wow! That title ended up a bit longer than I had hoped. Anyhow, when I started blogging I was so happy if I had one or two readers a day and I just didn’t know how I was going to build the traffic to my sites. I did plenty of research and started following a few successful blogs. Here are 5 of my favorite ways to gain new readers, meet new bloggers and cure writers block!

1. Go Blogtipping

Blogtipping is a concept inspired by Easton at Business Blogwire. The idea is easy. On the first day of each month, write about three blogs that you like and list three things you like about each blog. For added measure, give each blog a tip as to how they could improve their blog. Bloggers love to be tipped! Chances are they will leave you a nice comment, give you a little link love or become a new regular at your blog.

Added bonus: Easton does a wrap up post after the fact and highlights the blogtippers and tippees!

2. Join the Carnival

Not quite a circus, but fun, none the less!  For a carnival, the host/hostess of the carnival picks a topic for the post and you write a post at your blog about the topic. You link to the host blog/post in your post.  The carnival host will then list everyone who participated. My favorite Blog Carnival is the Red Hot Bloggers at MomGadget.

3. BlogJolt

I recently discovered this activity at eMoms at Home. The eMoms Blog Jolt Group hosts weekly “Jolts” in which the group members feature a chosen member blog to flood with traffic and inbound links.

Added bonus: There is an archive page and if your blog was jolted, you have a nice permanent feature.

4. Open Mic Night

Liz at Successful Blog is the Queen of Conversation in my book! Each Tuesday night she hosts Open Comment night at her blog. She picks the topic and bloggers from around the globe create an ongoing conversation that often lasts well into the night.

Added bonus: She also creates a great post-event wrap up post.

5. Stop lurking!

Leave a comment on a post that makes you think, laugh, or taught you something. Chances are, the blogger will visit you, too. Find a few forums that fit your personality, area of expertise, or area of desired learning and stop lurking. Use the forums to gain new blogging friends and share your knowledge - you won’t be disappointed.

I know there are other creative ideas to generate blog traffic and meet new blogs/bloggers in the process, but these are my favorites right now!

Halloween Roundup - Blogtipping Style!

Blogtipping at businessblogwire.comThe first of each month is Blogtipping Day and since we are all still experiencing a sugar high, I’ve decided to focus on a recap of yesterday - sorry Easton, not using the “proper” style this time.

I hope everyone takes the time to go blogtipping today and we’ll see you next month!

Let’s Go Blogtipping!

BlogtippingThe first day of each month is Blogtipping Day according to Business Blogwire.  It’s just about midnight so I’m going to say it’s close enough!

Since it is October and we have two major “holidays” to get through before I start my Christmas shopping, lets start off with something festive - Halloween Links. Things I like:

  1. They know their niche and they are going after it.
  2. They have my Printables site listed.
  3. Spooky, but sophisticated graphical theme.

Tip: Keep the focus and give us more great Halloween information. Maybe more pictures.

For my parenting segment, let’s note the Games Industry Wire. In particular, I like the post about parents and video games.

  1. Lots of information on new products.
  2. Personal perspective
  3. I like the poll.

Tip: More posts like the parenting one. It’s good to get the human side of gaming involved.

And last but not least - V-grrrl in the Middle

  1. V-grrl and I go way back and she was one of my blogging inspirations!
  2. I don’t care what V is writing about, she will either leave the reader laughing, crying, or thinking about her topic for the rest of the day.
  3. She has a cool collection of Kipling bags - hey, how about some pictures of your stash, V?

Tip: You have an amazing amount of business writing information and tips that you are not letting anyone know about. How about some business related posts every now and then or another blog? (hint-hint - we need to talk)

Go ahead, be bold. Join in on the BlogTipping today!
