Casual Friday – Caption Time Again

Welcome to another Casual Friday! As many of you know, our animals – the ones we claim to own and the ones who just invite themselves over, can be quite the source of entertainment around here – especially since we live on the fringe of suburbia.

Last Friday I pulled back into the driveway in front of the detached garage and saw this:

Excuse me! That is not a cat sitting in the window – its a racoon. My husband was on his way home from a business trip and when he got home he attempted to free the racoon (so we could humanely trap it and release it far away from here).

But the racoon wanted to use the wires in the rafters for tight ropes and circus tricks instead.

We had to come up with this contraption to get it down from the rafters. What an adventure!

Casual Friday – Fall is Here

After a week of 90+ degree weather in October, Fall has finally found Virginia. Yesterday the air was cool and crisp and it was like someone told the leaves it was okay to come down now. I am suddenly in the mood for my favorite jeans and a comfy sweater, hot chocolate, and a bowl of hot chili. It was hard to get in the mood for Halloween, hayrides at the farm or even football season when it was still so hot, but as of this morning it seems like Mother Nature has finally got it together.

Does it feel like fall in your neck of the woods? What are some of your favorite things about fall or are you in mourning over the passing of summer?

Casual Friday – Are You Game?

Another week gone! I hope everyone has had a good one.  In keeping with Friday tradition around here, it is Casual Friday, which means its time to kick back and chat. Comments will be open all day (just like they always are), so join in the conversation. While we do have a theme, you can ask questions or talk about anything really.

Today’s question: What’s your favorite online game? Is gaming something you do often or is it just a guilty pleasure?  Do you spend much time playing games online?

In the past year I have not really played online much (something about my blogs becoming more time consuming), but when I do, I prefer solitaire and word games to anything else. Last night my husband convinced me to join him at PokerStars (using the play money version) and that was fun, but I don’t think it would hold my attention very long. How about the stories I keep hearing of Moms (and Dads) becoming major players of their kids Webkinz accounts? Do you play your kids games or do you just get your own account?

Casual Friday – Let the Holiday Frenzy Begin

We are about one month out from Halloween, two months away from Thanksgiving and have fewer than three months left to do our Christmas shopping! That means that September, who is leaving us this weekend, was the calm before the storm!

Speaking of holidays, look what showed up in my mail box this week – all at one time! Yikes!

So, are you ready? Are you a holiday planner or do they just creep up on you? Have your kids picked out their halloween costumes yet? Have you started your Christmas shopping yet? Ah, the questions.

Casual Friday – Contest Crazy

Everyone loves a contest and the blogosphere is full of them. They are a great marketing tool for companies wanting to get the word out on a product/service, they are a creative way to generate blog traffic and backlinks, and they are a lot of fun to win!

Today for Casual Friday, let’s talk contests. Have you ever run one on your blog? Was it successful? Was it fun? Have you ever entered a blogger’s contest and won? Do you know of any good contests going on right now? (I know some of you make weekly roundup posts – please share)

Basically the floor is open to any and all comments (as long as they are PG-13 and nice) on the topic of contests and anything else you want to talk about.

As for me, I have run a few contests and they have been so much fun! I have another one coming up next week that is for a great cause, too, so you will have to check it out. This week I was lucky enough to be handing out a prize to a winner here, but also lucky enough to win a rockin’ prize from Pinks and Blues! I can’t wait for my goodies to arrive and when they do I will be sharing the pictures.
