Found: One Pair of Perfect Boots

If you read my post on Friday, you would know I spent the day shopping yesterday with two of my closest friends. The weather was rainy, cold, windy and just nasty, but we didn’t care. We were on a mission, a mission we set out on 3 times a year - to find that perfect something.

Every fall for the past few years (okay maybe five years), I have set out to find a great pair of boots to wear with jeans or long skirts. And every fall I have come up empty handed. Boots are typically not cheap and if I am going to part with $100 or more, they are going to have to be some boots!  I have looked high and low. I have said no to so many potential pairs of boots, it’s not funny. My 8 year old daughter says I’m too picky. It had become a joke between my daughters and my good friends, because I always say I am going to buy a pair of boots and end up walking out of the store empty handed. Until yesterday.

My new bootsI found the perfect boots! And, I bought them. They are a rich chocolate brown leather and suede mix. Simple, but just enough detail to add interest. Not too dressy, not too casual. Not too young looking, a little bit sassy, and nothing an old lady would wear. The heel is a tad bit higher than I had originally planned on, but looked perfect with my favorite jeans. I even took a picture of them for you!

The day was deemed a success after our first store, not only because I bought some kick-a$$ boots, but because “J” was convinced that a hot pair of deep red Anne Klein pumps were a better bet than the boring black ones. That is the fun of shopping with “A” - having spent all but the past 12 years of her life in Europe, she just has a sense of style about her and she is so good about getting us all to go beyond our comfort zones.

We shopped and shopped, then poured our weary legs back into the car and headed back to our own little neck of the woods for dinner. We opted for Indian as “A” and I really wanted Chicken Korma. It was so awesome and really hit the spot.

I can’t wait for January when we get to do this again in honor of “A”s birthday. I treasure these 3-time-a-year days with my friends, the memories are so wonderful!

Working for the Weekend and Going Shopping with the Girls!

Whew! That is a long title! Anyhow, it’s Friday, the sun is shining, I’m listening to party tunes on Virgin Radio, and all is good.

My good friend “A” just called as I was getting ready to drop “Queenie” off at Preschool. She was looking for a good excuse to visit a few new area stores and wanted an accomplice. I was so proud of myself. I told her no. I am working this afternoon so I can have a guilt-free weekend and I am saving my pennies for Sunday.

Sunday, my two close friends (”A” and “J”) and I are having a girls shopping day. This day happens three times a year (in conjunction with our birthdays) and we often contemplate adding to our group so we can sneak in an extra day. We love these shopping days, because they have such great memories attached to them.

It is always more fun to shop with your pals. We are brutally honest with each other - telling each other what looks good, what doesn’t and what is not worth it. We challenge each other to try something new, something out of our shopping comfort zones. And the biggest rule that needs enforcing - no shopping for the kids on this trip.

Afterwards we usually go for an early dinner at a restaurant and chat about our purchases, tell silly stories and generally enjoy each other’s company.

So, back to work I go! Have a great weekend and I’ll come back Monday and tell you what we got!

It’s Only Hair!

This one is for the girls! Without fail, the day I call and schedule a hair appointment my hair looks terrible and the day before the appointment it looks great!!! So off I go to the salon yesterday and decide that all I really need is a trim and my hair coloring needs help because the summer highlights are too grown out and the dark brown and gray hairs are shining through!

I decided that what I wanted was my natural dark brown hair back.  I am rebelling against the trend of blonde highlights - afterall, they just turn orange on my hair anyhow. Well, let’s just say that now my hair is BLACK and I am not happy about it. Why can’t I just find a color I like? Everything is either too dark, too light, or too orange.

I am hoping that by week’s end and lots of washing, it will have faded out enough that I can live with it. I mean, it’s only hair, and it will grow out, but I will just be avoiding mirrors for a few days!
