Monday Motivation - Oh, The Distractions

We have a new kitten in the house and I feel like I have been taken back in time to the days where I would work on the computer while one of my babies slept on my lap. Fritz the 4 month old kitty has already taken one nap on my lap this morning and he is so entertaining, I’ll be lucky if I get anything done. And speaking of distractions, the  kids will be out of school Friday and I have quite a few errands to run this week, too.

So, how to you run your business when faced with all of life’s little distractions? It’s simple!

  1. Prioritize
  2. Plan
  3. Eliminate the distractions you can control (IM, Twitter, etc)
  4. Hold yourself accountable

This week will be a challenge, but I plan on:

  • Meeting with my (hopefully new) accountant
  • Finishing a site design for a new client
  • Finishing the client updates I didn’t finish last week so I can enjoy Spring Break next week
  • Cleaning my office - down to the file cabinets
  • Working on the new Printables4Kids layout
  • Optimizing ads on all my sites

And what if I don’t get it done? Well, I might just have to extend the same incentive that I did at Wendy’s last week. If I don’t get it all done, I will design a 125×125 ad banner for one lucky commenter and offer up a month’s worth of ad space for that banner on one of my websites (winner’s choice). In order to be eligible for this payout, should I lose steam, you have to comment on this post or link to it via your own Monday Motivation post.

Monday Motivation - Get Organized

Monday MotivationAfter being gone all weekend I am facing this Monday morning with a sense of overwhelming urgency. There is  so much to do that I don’t even know where to start - and that is the problem. I am feeling very unorganized and fear that unless I get organized, the whole day will be wasted.

Here is how I am going to tackle today:

  1. Grab my momAgenda planner and take a look at the week’s schedule, add in anything new, and make any adjustments
  2. Clean off my desk. Get rid of papers and notes I no longer need. Put all others in appropriate folders.
  3. Print out a new project planner worksheet (see what it looks like and get your own) then fill it out with project specific tasks that need to be done.

Once I have got myself organized I will be much more productive! Then I can do the important stuff:

  • Invoice clients
  • Finish two site designs
  • Client site updates

How about you? What are your goals for today or the week? I have found that making my plan and holding myself accountable for it is the best way to start off my week. Join Wendy at eMoms at Home, WAH(web)Mommy, From the Park Bench and me by posting your own Monday Motivation post.

Motivation Monday - Divide and Conquer

Monday MotivationAnother Monday sits here staring me in the face asking the money question of the day - “What are you going to accomplish today?” Luckily I am prepared with a response! “I am going to divide and conquer.”
Anytime I am faced with a huge to-do list or a very big project I tend to get overwhelmed and that often leads to procrastination - I just don’t know where to start. Over the years I have learned to divide these big tasks into smaller tasks, making them more manageable and the results more measurable.

Today:

  • Write out post ideas for week
  • Work on case study post for Essential Keystrokes
  • Go through inbox and prioritize maintenance tasks
  • Do time sensitive site updates for clients

This Week:

How about you? What are your goals for today or the week? I have found that making my plan and holding myself accountable for it is the best way to start off my week. Join Wendy at eMoms at Home, WAH(web)Mommy, From the Park Bench and me by posting your own Monday Motivation post.

Monday Motivation - No Motivation Today

Most Mondays I have my To-Do list written out, coffee on the go and I am ready to hit the week running. Today, that is not the case! I will be lucky if I make it out of my jammies today and get anything done. I have been fighting an upper respiratory virus since last Monday and it really took me down over the weekend - but I couldn’t slow down (long story, but it just wasn’t possible). The worst of it has to be over because I do feel a bit better today and my voice is slowly coming back. Add to that, my son is home sick today, and you start to get the picture.

No goals or lists for me today. I’m picking and choosing the tasks I have energy for and what ever I end up getting done is better than nothing.

As far as the week goes, I do have some goals:

  • Put the finishing touches on a client site
  • Finish writing SEO report for another client
  • Update my blogs to the latest WordPress version
  • Go through inbox and make sure there are no outstanding maintenance tasks

Looking for more Monday Motivation? Wendy at eMoms at Home is getting serious about getting things done and WAH(web)Mommy has already got her week planned out.
