Casual Friday - Let’s Dish

Casual FridaysIt’s Friday again and I’m seeing stars! Between the Harry Potter movie madness, the Posh and Becks show, Emmy nomination announcements, and the fact that I am taking 3 tween boys to see Transformers today, it seems that the celebrities are at every turn. Speaking of celebs, even though Victoria Beckham is sporting some serious 80’s fashion, I do love this picture of her with her son on the soccer field.

By now you should all be getting the hang of this Casual Friday thing. Stop in anytime and join in our conversation - as it often takes a path of its own. Since there are so many celebs making the news right now, let’s dish a bit today!

What movies have you seen or do you want to see? Sound off on some of the celebrity goings on. Give us your Emmy nominations. Or take the conversation in a totally different direction - sort of like what happens when you get a bunch of good friends around the table with a cup of coffee!

And thanks to all who stopped in for the fun last week - Eliza, Gayla, Laura, Randa, Dana, Yvonne,  AgentSully,  Amanda, Ingo, Brown Baron, Angela, Jo and V-grrrl.

Thirteen of my Favorite Movie Quotes

Thursday Thirteen

I think everyone is in need of a little uplifting this week. For Thursday Thirteen I am sharing some of my favorite movie quotes. If you are wondering why they are all from kids movies, that would be because I have three kids and I hear these movies in the car, watch them with the kids in the playroom and don’t get to see nearly as many grown up movies. Besides, these are more fun!

  1. One should always be ready to listen to one’s children, even if they have nothing to say. (Chicken Little)
  2. To infinity, and beyond! (Toy Story)
  3. It depends on you…you have to make the right choices. (Meet the Robinsons)
  4. Where there is a will there is a way, and I have a way. (Shrek )
  5. Otis, a strong man stands up for himself, a stronger man stands up for others. (Barnyard )
  6. We eat to live. These guys live to eat! (Over the Hedge)
  7. Just smile and wave boys, smile and wave (Madagascar )
  8. When life gets you down do you wanna know what you’ve gotta do? Keep swimming. Just keep swimming. (Finding Nemo)
  9. I never look back, darling, it distracts from the now. (The Incredibles)
  10. First rule of leadership: everything is your fault (A Bug’s Life)
  11. This is my family. I found it, all on my own. Is little, and broken, but still good. Yeah, still good. (Stitch from Lilo & Stitch)
  12. Ohana means family, family means nobody gets left behind. Or forgotten. (Lilo from Lilo & Stitch)
  13. Around here, however, we don’t look backwards for very long. We keep moving forward, opening up new doors and doing new things… and curiosity keeps leading us down new paths. (Walt Disney at the end of Meet the Robinsons)

By the way, which is your favorite? Or, what is your favorite inspirational quote from a movie?

Classic Movie Saturday Night - Ferris Bueller’s Day Off

Ferris Bueller's Day OffFlipping through the channels tonight we stumbled on the beginning of a true classic - Ferris Bueller’s Day Off. It was released in 1986 - the year I graduated from high school - and it brings back some good memories. Watching the movie again tonight, I now appreciate the classic quotes all throughout the movie. My favorites:

Life moves pretty fast. If you don’t stop and look around once in awhile, you could miss it.

Sooner or later, everyone goes to the zoo.

I am not going to sit on my ass as the events that affect me unfold to determine the course of my life. I’m going to take a stand. I’m going to defend it. Right or wrong, I’m going to defend it.

The question isn’t “what are we going to do,” the question is “what aren’t we going to do?”

Does anyone know what Vice President Bush called this in 1980? Anyone? Something-d-o-o economics. “Voodoo” economics.

You have just love the fashions, too! The suspenders, high waisted pants, big hair and Jennifer Gray’s make-up - did we really wear that stuff? (yes, I know we did) What are your favorite movies from your high school days?

And My Oscar Pick Is…

CarsI know the movie world is all abuzz this evening with the 79th Annual Academy Awards show coming up. I went to check out who was nominated for what and realized that I am a very sad case. Of all the movies nominated, whether for its main actor, actress or other stellar quality, I have only seen ONE. That’s right, ONE.

So, my vote for best (animated) picture of the year is Cars. How could you resist those googly eyes, subtle humor, and syrupy sweet story line?  Lightning McQueen and ‘Mater have such unique on screen chemistry!  I wonder what they’ll wear to the show tonight???

Four Stars for Shall We Dance

Let me start by saying, I am not a movie person. I usually have a hard time just sitting and watching TV or movies. However, this evening my husband and I channel surfed to the Lifetime network and started watching the 2004 movie “Shall We Dance” with Richard Gere, Jennifer Lopez and Susan Sarandon.

The movie synopsis according to the Lifetime website is:

A married workaholic impulsively signs up for dance lessons after seeing the beautiful instructor through the window. Though disappointed that the beauty isn’t his teacher, he surprises himself by falling in love with dancing. Little does he know his new passion, which he keeps a secret, could be a balm for his troubled marriage. This feel-good flick with an all-star cast is sure to dance its way into your heart.

After a few moments, I closed my laptop and was completely sucked in to this movie. The dancing was beautiful and the chemistry between the characters was enough to make my heart pound.

The twists and turns in the movie were like the dances themselves - I wasn’t always sure where the movie was going but I was enjoying the dance.

Lifetime is airing the movie again at 9 pm (EST) on Sunday and Monday. If you need a good mental getaway that will leave you feeling good, check it out.
