I knew I was tempting fate when we decided to have a third child. Afterall, boy #1 was (and continues to be) as mellow as can be. Girl #2, is slightly more high-maintenance, but has a high tolerance for pain, blood, guts and dirt. Enter girl #3 – a bonafide drama queen!
Miss N was the perfect baby. She was quiet. She slept a lot. And she could entertain herself very well. Those days are long gone! As a five year old, who is preparing to start kindergarten in the fall, Miss N is testing my every last resolve as a Mom – on a daily basis.
Don’t get me wrong, I absolutely adore my little princess. She is the one who loves to snuggle, draws me creative pictures, and is always singing a sweet tune.
However, I was not prepared for the book throwing incident at school last week. You know the one where she decides she is not going to share and hurls the book across the classroom then screams at everyone in the classroom?
How about the incident in the doctor’s office this morning, where she screamed at the nurse taking her “finger blood”? That was the longest 90 minutes of my life. She was so stressed about this appointment and literally had to be pinned down to give her the required immunizations.
Luckily, no permanent damage was done. We stopped at Toys ‘r Us and she spent her birthday gift card on the new Barbie Fairytopia movie. She came home, put on her fairy wings, tiara, popped in the movie and all was right again in her little world.
I will really miss her company during the mornings next year, but on the other hand, I have a big party planned for the first day of school.

I am a firm believer in sharing what you know and everyone wins. Aaron Potts of Today is That Day wants everyone to share their secrets of success by participating in a meme called Simply Successful Secrets.
I was tagged by Carolyn Manning at Thoughts & Philosophies to share my secrets. And while I feel that the best is yet to come for me, I consider myself to be pretty successful in life – I have a husband, three kids, a house on the perfect lot, live in quiet neighborhood on the fringe of suburbia, and have the benefit of working from home, for myself. So, while my life is not perfect, I must be doing something right.
Here are the things I do daily that contribute to my success:
1. Constant Quest for Knowledge. I love to learn something new and try to do so everyday. Knowledge is power and the more I know, the better decisions I can make along the way. I am amazed at how much I learn every day through reading blogs, researching topics, and tackling new challenges.
2. Can Do Attitude. If I really want to do something, I can usually find a way. I am the consummate optimist – always looking on the bright side and looking for creative ways to accomplish what needs to be done. Sometimes this comes back to bite me – since I don’t always think these can-do ideas all the way through, but for the most part, it has served me well.
3. I’m Not Afraid To Go Against The Norm. I’m not sure why, but I have always seemed to take my own path. Just because everyone else is doing it, does not mean that is the best option for me. Plus, it often makes for good conversation.
4. Good Manners. By treating others with respect and using simple, good manners with everyone I meet, I have opened many doors for myself throughout the years and helped me retain a very strong base of clients in my business.
So, what are your secrets? I am going to tag a handful of bloggers, however, feel free to take this one over to your own blog and run with it! Just be sure to let everyone know that Aaron started it, and that I continued it. Your blog will thank you.

What am I talking about??? The two P’s – Procrastination and Perfection.
These two words are going to be the end of me if I don’t figure out how to tackle them head on day in and day out. Some days I have a handle on them and other days, they rule me.
Procrastination has haunted me since I was a child. I have always figured that I just work best under pressure. The truth is, that I work best when I just get it done! For some reason, that just doesn’t seem to sink in when dealing with the more mundane tasks in life. It is hereditary – of that I am sure. My daughter gets a project at school and immediately gets it done, whereas my son (& I) will leave that thing to the night before.
Perfection is the other one. My attitude (which I know is so wrong) is that it is either perfect or not worth doing. Unfortunately, this way of thinking has affected my perception of housework – why do it – the kids will mess it up shortly. And my attitude towards fitness and weight loss – I don’t have the time to workout that I did when I was single and skinny – so why bother. And these are only two of the many facets of my life that are affected.
If I know these two P’s are so bad for me mentally, why, why, don’t I throw them to the curb? Any ideas? Strategies? Words of encouragement?

Now I would be delusional to think that we have seen the last of winter, but let me just bask in some wishful thinking. After the deep freeze we have been in for the past few weeks, I am so happy to say that not only will the kids go back to school today (after being off almost a week), but the temperature is supposed to go up to a balmy 45 degrees today. And by Thursday, we could see 62! And it’s a good thing too, my furnace could use a break.
I am really looking forward to the end of the week. My Mom, two of best friends and I are going to the Maymont Flower and Garden Show. It will be such a nice break to spend the whole day in the company of grownups and getting inspired for spring planting. Bring on the sun! I’ll take plenty of pictures to share.
Hope things are starting to thaw out where ever you are!

So, call an old friend. Treat a child for doing something right. Say hello to a stranger. Let someone go ahead of you in line. Make cookies for a neighbor. Write a teacher a thank you note. Or leave a comment on a blog you love to read.
