Will Cash Go The Way Of The Dinosaur?

We have seen the new run of Visa commercials that show the whole flow of a busy cafeteria coming to a stop when someone chooses to pay with cash and just this morning I saw a news clip about a Washington, DC cafe, called Snap, that no longer accepts cash. Is this the beginning of the end for cash? Personally, I rarely have cash on me and maybe write 1-2 checks a month. Everything else is done via my debit card or a credit card.

According to Snap’s owner, the plastic only policy means more security in the store (less risk of robbery), easier balancing at the end of the day, and no more daily trips to the bank to make deposits. Makes perfect sense to me. But is it legal? There is nothing in the US legal system that says it isn’t.

However, what about those who don’t have plastic whether by choice or not? Cash leaves no paper trail for its users, either. Where does it leave them?

It is getting more and more difficult to function in today’s society without some form of plastic, whether it be a debit or credit card. According to the American Banking Association, more than 53% of US consumers use debit and credit cards for the majority of their purchases - and that was a number from 2003/2004 - you know that has gone up.

What do you think? Is doing business via cash becoming extinct or will cash always be king?

WordPress Crisis Over - Happy Ending!

You know that old saying, “what doesn’t kill you, makes you stronger?” Well, that was the story of my day. I had a little issue with WordPress this morning and by asking the right people for help, the problem has been fixed. If you are interested in getting the details of what went wrong and how it was ultimately fixed, go to my business blog, Essential Keystrokes for a recap.

And now I return to my regularly scheduled evening…

I am a B.A.D. blogger

I am happy to say that I am a B.A.D. blogger at Liz Strauss’ Successful Blog today.  Earlier this week Liz and I had a nice long conversation thanks to Skype and learned quite a bit about each other.

She even sparked a new idea for my Essential Keystrokes blog - Essential Tools. I will be featuring different bloggers each Wednesday and sharing their three most essential technology tools with my blog audience.

Why All The Fuss About PS3?

Okay, someone please correct me if I am wrong, but is the new PS3 really worth $599? Is it worth waiting in long lines, late at night just to get one? Is it worth being robbed or shot? I just don’t get it!!!

We have lots of technology in this house - our kids each have their own computer, we have PS2 and we have other gadgets too, but $599 for a video game system is nuts.

Okay, I’m done venting….

Trinkies - Another Way to Personalize Your Cell Phone

Now that just about everyone has their own cell phone, we’re seeing more products that let them customize their phones. Last week we found Trinkies. Let’s just say they are bling for your “ring.” We got two of them. A cute green shamrock for me and the sparkly pink fairy for my daughter.

Trinkies are like jewelry for your phone’s antennae. Slip them on and off easily and change them out to match your mood, your outfit, or the seasons. You can even make your own custom Trinkies! They can make your own designs into cell phone antenna charm rings. Perfect for school or athletic teams or company promotional items.

We even found another use for them - my daughter and I have identical digital cameras. We figured that we could use the Trinkies to help us keep track of whose phone was whose by slipping the Trinkie through the camera strap.
