Father’s Day Gift Ideas For The Dad Who Has It All

Great DadI know I have some awesome Dads who read this blog! You all know who you are. Anyhow, I am seeking your advice!

What do you get a great Dad who has everything he needs already?

My husband is the kind of guy who doesn’t really have a wish list. If he needs something for the workshop, he goes and gets it. If he is at the store and sees a movie he wants to see, he gets it. So, when holidays like Father’s Day, his birthday, and Christmas come along I am stumped. And did I mention that his birthday is 10 days after Father’s Day? I think I have his birthday figured out - he is turning 40 and I have some thoughts. But for Father’s Day, I am stumped.

Ideas anyone? He still has a golf gift certificate left from Christmas, hockey season is over, football season hasn’t started, he wears a uniform to work so he doesn’t need any ties, he has an iPod, so see, I am stumped.

The key for the man who has everything or doesn’t want anything is to anticipate something they’d enjoy. A DVD series they may not have heard of on a subject they’re interested in (think non-fiction). The *perfect* gym duffle or backpack or work bag, not just any old one. High quality athletic gear, the type they wouldn’t buy for themselves or might not know exists. Stuff like Coolmax t-shirts or jerseys instead of cotton t-shirts, high-tech sports socks designed for their particular sport instead of the usual Wal-Mart cotton crew sock, a fleece jacket with extra pockets. E likes to garden so I used to get him garden stuff–not necessarily tools (which he liked to pick out himself), but cool things, like an expensive birdfeeder or unique garden ornament. If your husband likes to cook, think Pampered Chef. They have such nifty tools and gadgets. Lawn games are fun too–a nice croquet set for example.

what are his likes/dislikes? for my 40th birthday last year, my wife signed me up for membership to a beer of the month club. each month (for 6 or 12 months depending on which plan you buy), 12 bottles of unique beers are delivered to the house (3 x 4 different beers). I’m not a big drinker but i do appreciate a quality beer every now and then. it was a perfect gift for me and 10 months on i still get to celebrate my birthday every month!

I’m giving away a Rolling Stones DVD new release on Saturday if that’s more to your Dad’s liking. Father’s Day is a tough one . . .

Make him enjoy movies under the stars! Get a blanket, pack a picnic basket and take him out on friday or saturday night to your local Film Festival at Robert E. Lee School.
