I was going to use this picture for my Wordless Wednesday post, but I couldn’t leave it wordless. Anyone who has been reading this site for any length of time is at least a bit familiar with the antics of my five year old drama queen. In true Miss N fashion, she threw me for a loop again today.

She has this pair of Old Navy, wedge, hot pink flip flops. I bought them last summer and the two have been close friends ever since. No joke. These are the most favored pair of shoes in the house. They are too small, they are beyond dirty, and have seen their better days.
I was at Target today and found a cute pair of wedge flip flops with a bit of pink sparkle and Hello Kitty. They have a cork like heel - just like big sister’s. I knew she’d like them.
In an effort to utilize the one in, one out method, I convinced her to retire the old pair - to the garbage.
About 10 minutes later I hear this sobbing coming from the other room. I asked her what was wrong, and she said she missed her old shoes and wanted them back. We talked for a few minutes and it grew apparent to me that this was a truly traumatic thing in her mind. There is a connection between her and the shoes. Obviously I wasn’t seeing them for what they really are - part of the family.
So, what would any good Mom do? I hauled them out of the trash. And now they will just have to magically disappear on their own at an undisclosed date in the near future.

Good job! She’ll let them go when the right time comes
My Wednesday didn’t stay Wordless, either.

Join http://www.savethatoldpair.com today.
I have to say, I understand her attachment. I get attached to things like that too … and I have no idea why. lol
Good for you for pulling them out of the trash. She’ll remember, and appreciate, how you “understood.”
My six-year-old daughter is just like this. Her grandparents buy her new stuff but she won’t wear it because she is so attached to the old stuff.
It gives me hope that we won’t be a disposable society forever!
(Thanks for the comment at GoodWordEditing.com last night!)

Dorothy had ruby slippers, Miss N has pink flip flops. Magic comes from unexpected places.
