Monday Motivation - Oh, The Distractions

We have a new kitten in the house and I feel like I have been taken back in time to the days where I would work on the computer while one of my babies slept on my lap. Fritz the 4 month old kitty has already taken one nap on my lap this morning and he is so entertaining, I’ll be lucky if I get anything done. And speaking of distractions, the  kids will be out of school Friday and I have quite a few errands to run this week, too.

So, how to you run your business when faced with all of life’s little distractions? It’s simple!

  1. Prioritize
  2. Plan
  3. Eliminate the distractions you can control (IM, Twitter, etc)
  4. Hold yourself accountable

This week will be a challenge, but I plan on:

  • Meeting with my (hopefully new) accountant
  • Finishing a site design for a new client
  • Finishing the client updates I didn’t finish last week so I can enjoy Spring Break next week
  • Cleaning my office - down to the file cabinets
  • Working on the new Printables4Kids layout
  • Optimizing ads on all my sites

And what if I don’t get it done? Well, I might just have to extend the same incentive that I did at Wendy’s last week. If I don’t get it all done, I will design a 125×125 ad banner for one lucky commenter and offer up a month’s worth of ad space for that banner on one of my websites (winner’s choice). In order to be eligible for this payout, should I lose steam, you have to comment on this post or link to it via your own Monday Motivation post.

Motivation - argh, Some days I cannot get organised, and try and write ‘to do lists’ but I hardly achieve the goals. I work full-time and blog in my spare time, and my goal for today was to write a 1,000 word blog post about healthy vacation tips, during my morning and lunch break.

I did it! My goals tomorrow are;

- find new social media tools to promote my blog
- research my next blog post
- tidy up some pages of the blog.

Good luck with this weeks tasks! :)

tbh I think that’s an easy to-do list (unless the client work throws you a curveball) :)

what type of optimization are you looking at? If it’s optimizing for search traffic v regular users, I have a plugin that might help you.

My kitteh does the same dang thing.

He loves to sit in my lap and lay on top of my right arm while I am typing. It kind of drives me nuts but he’s so dang cute I can’t make him stop! :)

Awww she’s so cute! I LOVE cats. I just wish I weren’t allergic to them.

I’ve got a cute one of Molly on the laptop I’ll be sharing soon too :) Gotta love those little distractions. They’re what keeps life entertaining.

Good luck! I notice blogging isn’t one of the distractions listed alongside IM and Twitter. :-)

This post comes at the right time! I’ve been working 10 hour days, and still haven’t been able to get through my backlog. I hope you finish your tasks for this week, so you can enjoy spring break, even though I’d really love a new banner! LOL!

Gorgeous kitty, BTW! I am a cat person too.

Fritz is adorable! Our family friends had a dog named Fritz and I always loved that name. :)

The #1 thing I took away from that list is to eliminate the distractions like twitter and IM. It’s so hard… but if you do it, you are SO much more productive!!
