Can you guess what today is? Yep, it is the first day of school. I am now sitting at my desk in my home office listening to … nothing but the gently hum of the dishwasher.
My son started Middle School today and he felt very confident about his schedule, opening his locker and the new independence and responsibility he will be given.
My older daughter started 4th grade with the same teacher my son had for 1st and 4th grades. She is awesome and Miss M is so ready to resume her social butterfly ways.
Little Miss N headed onto the bus with a mix of hesitation and excitement. She is more than ready for Kindergarten but not 100% sure what to expect. She’ll do fine and will be directing the class by the end of the week.
I have been looking forward to this day for 11 years, but am grateful for every day that has passed in between. I am truly grateful that I have been able to work from home so I could be there for all the milestones, tea parties, story times, preschool field trips and all.
What am I going to do with all this uninterrupted time now? Hmmm… I have a stack of work on my desk waiting to be dealt with, I want to paint Miss N’s room, I am going to start walking a few times a week with friends, and I have already been talked into volunteering at the school one morning a week. Something tells me the time will fly by!!

congratulations! How’s mommy holding up?

Shaz - thanks - I am enjoying it!
Jane - The doggies are enjoying the peace and quiet too. Painting - it’s not a matter of motivation rather a matter of a 5 year old incessantly nagging for it to be done.
HomeMome3 - How am I holding up? Oh my - not a single tear was shed and I am getting a lot done. I could get used to this. It’s nice that when they get home we are all in a great mood and the kids can’t wait to share their days.

I love the photograph. If that is the road by your house I’ll bet it is absolutely beautiful in the fall.
Let’s see, Lauren started school on the 21st. She’s a junior this year, cheer leading, and has tons of honors classes to keep her busy. Her social life has resumed and she’ll be driving on her own soon. It’s a good thing I hung on to that 94′ Dodge Shadow. It’s got her name written all over it.
Fiona is 3 and Kinsley is 1 so it will be a good 4-5 years before ALL of the rest of my kids are either at school or out of the house. I haven’t figured out if Fiona will start kindergarten next fall yet or not. Lauren will be a senior in high school. I may go ahead and start her the following year. Her birthday is in December so I’m not really too sure how that is supposed to all work out.
It is nice when everybody in the house is fast asleep and I can actually type out a thought without being interrupted.
