When it comes to decorating your kids’ rooms, what is your style? Let them paint the walls and decorate according to their own taste or are you partial to white walls?
I was reading about the Princess Room at PlayLibrary.com and decided to share some pictures of my 8 year old daughter’s room, too.
It’s just paint. It’s just paint. These are the words I kept repeating over and over in my head as I rolled the first strip of deep magenta on my daughter’s wall. It was so bright and took about three coats of paint to really look good. I kept asking myself what I was getting into.

The next wall got painted purple. And the two end walls - they were a silvery blue. When I started the project, I could not imagine how awesome it would turn out. We pulled her wild paint scheme together with the Betsy wallpaper border and accessories from Bombay Kids (like the .

Needless to say - this room ROCKS and will grow with her nicely through her teens.

What a fun room!!! Yes, it’s just paint. And think of what great memories she’ll be making in a room painted with her in mind.
Thanks for the link!

You are welcome - sorry my links weren’t initially working. It took Hsien’s quick mind to figure out that I had somehow marked this post as private.

Your daughters room does ROCK. How long did it take you to complete the project? I can’t wait until we get our other house sold so I can start decorating. I’ve got butterflies in my head and flowers too.

Yep, it ROCKS! Great colors.

Thanks all. It is not a very large room but it is a challenging room because of the dormer, slanted roof and it has no closet. The bright pink wall is one we put in. We took the room and divided it in two. Her younger sister’s room is on the other side and it has the closet.
Anyhow, it took me three days to do the whole room. The room was dark blue on the bottom and white on top before (her brother had this room at one point) so it took 3 coats of each color to get good results.

E-Grrrl’s room in America has the dormers, the slanted ceiling, three windows, doors to the eaves, closet doors. We couldn’t do anything with any kind of wall paper borders or two-tone paint scheme. It is, however, a deep shade of seafoam green, a color I picked out for the nursery that she never wanted to change. When we re-decorate, it’s all about a new quilt or pillows. She has tradtional tastes.
My son’s room in America has gone through a few paint jobs. Currently it’s a blue-green color. At one point it was yellow and white and because he loves birds, was decorated with a dozen Audobon prints he’d picked out. Up high, close to the ceiling, was a small shelf where all his bird-themed beanie babies were displayed.

The room is great!
When we moved back in July, having 4 teens, we decided to give the kids COMPLETE control over what they did with their rooms.
One room started out being an “army” theme and quickly turned into more of a “dark army paintball” theme. The walls were painted chocolate and with a dark army green, they stuck their hands in the paint and just slung it everywhere. Ceiling and all. They LOVE IT!
The other son did his room entirely in school colors and used his Football Jersey’s (with curtain rod through the sleeves) as the window valances. It looks great with all his trophies and antique sports collection going.
The girl is into Anime - she uses her walls as her art canvas.
I’ll have to take some photos at some point and share them. They do look really cute. I was quite proud of how creative they were.

I love the zebra print border you used. Where did you get it?
Thanks,
Stacy

Stacy - the border is from Bombay Kids - it is from the Betsy collection. If you can’t find it on the Bombay Kids web site, search for it on eBay - quite a bit of Betsy stuff there.

Char,
Thank you! I found one on e-bay! I need two more. Any ideas?
Love the room, we are doing the betsy collection too. However, we hit a snag and are 3 feet shory on the wall paper border and Bombay has dicontinued it. Wondering if you had and leftover border we could buy from you. we are desperate. Thanks for your time!

Stacy
I love it!!! I am getting ready to decorate a similiar room. Where did you
get the bedspread and pillows, and wall paper border?
