Seeing Stars - Why Do They Act That Way?

I know it must be difficult to live your life in the public eye, but what is it about the personality of celebrities that makes it so hard for them to live by the same rules as the rest of us?

I think many people who are drawn to being actors and actress, comedians and other performers crave attention. They tend to be insecure individuals in many aspects, but the applause of the audience and constant media attention feed their hunger for attention. Do you really think that Tom Cruise would be happy with his life if his acting and celebrity career would suddenly be done? Have his recent antics been a desperate attempt to keep him in the public eye? I think so. Can you imagine living with that man? Too high maintenance - no way!!

And what about all the actresses who are constantly starving themselves? Someone needs to step in and let these girls know that they are fine just the way they are! But I do think there is something about their personalities - the same thing that makes them good performers also makes them do stupid things.

In my opinion, divas in any arena of life tend to be so amazingly good at what they do that other vital areas of their lives are never developed - like common sense (think - Einstein).  You find this with elite athletes, geniuses, musicians and actors.

What do you think? Is it just their personality or am I missing the boat on this one?  And in the meantime, if you need some more celebrity antics to keep you amused, check out CelebAmour - she’s got it all there.

Years ago when I learned that most celebrities’ lives are handled like business products by marketing geniuses and branding experts, it all made sense to me. Now I look at every celebrity move, interview, appearance, etc. with my PR eye, gauging what the messaging strategy is. Adds an interesting dimension for those of us in the marketing biz.
