The New Year has finally arrived and I am welcoming 2008 with open arms! Not that 2007 was all that bad, but because 2008 marks a new chapter in my life and I am really excited about it.
In 2008, I will enter my 40’s.
While my 30’s were all about having a family, being a new Mom, surviving diapers, toddler tantrums and preschool, my 40’s are going to be more about ME. My children are going to be going through the tweens and teens and while they will still need me on a daily basis, I can move my role with them from “babysitter, doer of all” to “coach, counselor, and parent”.
My 30’s were about putting everyone else’s needs first leaving me tired, out of shape, and somedays resentful. My 40’s will be more about balance. I will make time for myself and will even put my personal needs first without feeling guilty about it either. My children will be better for it with a Mom who values her time, health and knowledge.
In my 30’s I launched my small business as a freelance web designer and general computer skills jane of all trades. In my 40’s, I will take this business to a different level. Instead of trying to grow my client base and taking anything that comes my way, I will be my own biggest client first and will only take on new projects if they truly inspire me.
It may seem a bit selfish, but the more I read about and talk to truly successful and happy women, the more I know that going into my 40’s with confidence, passion, and purpose will result in a happier family all around.
No resolutions here! Just a new attitude. Won’t you join me? It’s going to be a great year!

That was truly inspiring. I wish that I could say that my 30’s are all about other’s — but I have always been a person who takes carre of myself as well. That means to me:
Exercising
Yoga
Going out with friends
Having a great cup o’ coffee
I love these things although they never seem to happen as much as I would like. The 4 and 2 year old make sure of that.
But to take of yourself means happiness - and you deserve it!!

very well said Char, I wish you only good things!
I am at the same stage. 2008 will be my final year in the 30’s and I love your attitude adjustment idea. While I enjoyed the babyhood of all of my kids - I am finding the tweens to be less satisfying (maybe it’s the kids’ new Attitude, and I am not saying that nicely!). Regardless, it is time for me to expand my horizons beyond the home.

Brooke - you are a smart one! 4 and 2 were great ages but they were so much work.
Shaz - thanks! Sending some sanity your way, too.
Neena - I like the tweens more than the baby days, but the attitudes can get a little much some days. At least with tweens, you can take away privileges and they get it.

Congrats! I’m a couple years away myself and my kids will still not be in their tweens/teens yet. I guess one of the downfalls of being an older mom but then again most of my friends are in the same boat. I have heard great things about the 40’s too. After Babble Soft is successful (knock on wood) I plan to take up a singing career and they say a woman’s voice is the best in her 40’s.
